Almost made a terrible mistake

I am trying my best to hold out for the new line of RTX laptops to be released by all of the major gaming pc manufacturers so that I can compare specs and prices.

However, I also need to be productive and not having a portable powerhouse is really killing my productivity.

I almost spent $4429 today on an ASUS G703 with these specs:

  • i9 processor 8950
  • 1080 8gb
  • 64gb ram
  • 3x1tb samsung evo ssd
  • 2tb sshd
  • 4k gsync screen

I need a laptop ASAP and had assumed the RTX lappys would be available right after CES. Not one available online yet.

I checked the ASUS website and it mentioned a RTX 2080 version of the same lappy so I canceled my order.

I play a lot of FPS games so possibly will benefit from holding off in favor of an RTX laptop.

My question for you guys is: with a budget of 5 racks, should I go for the Asus G703 with the 1080, hold out for a Asus G703 with 2080 graphics....

Or different brand? MSI? Alienware? Any news of an updated Blade Pro (possibly one with an i9)?

SOS.

Pretty sure the first batch of RTX laptops come out on the 29th, so its up to you if you want to wait and see what the laptops will cost. The 2080 would be better performing, but if you went for 2070 it would be around the same performance I would think.

I'm going to lean towards the high-end gpu. My last workstation had a quadro so I'm pretty spoiled on mid-range and lower end cards now. Especially since I've been doing some 3d design since about 2004. The quadro series doesn't render games well but is mathematically precise. I'm hoping the RTX 2080 isnt completely useless for some light CAD work. For gaming, I almost refuse to settle. Dont like to lag. Dont like to lose.

So the 29th, huh? Unless I end up with an updated Blade Pro, which would be my preference, I'll probably end up waiting even a few more weeks after that bc custom laptop builders like Xotic or ExcaliberPC may take longer to make their upgraded laptops available. Thanks for the info! But I was really hoping for somebody to drop a hint about the Blade Pro.

If I could get a BP with those specs listed above for a similar price I'd be pretty darn satisfied. Even then, somebody might tell me that the 2080 is an unneccessary premium and to get the 1080 when the prices are forced down.

The problem is that it's time-sensitive.

You made right decision. This is prime test from chimera i9 1080 on notebookcheck, isn’t great for laptops that has big cooling room. I did recently similar test on my Blade 15 out of box condition (no repasting, no undervolting, no Core limitation, and gaming mode for max cpu tdp), before this test, it didn’t touch 80ish on prime mostly on 70ish but after around 7 months usage finally one core became badass, but it’s still way better temperature than chimera.
Unfortunately Razer is pretty close about laptops refresh and I never saw someone like Min chi kuo in mac world here as well, first staff announcement here would introduce all new refreshes. I’m expecting as well about Blade Pro refresh.

Great. I appreciate you!!!

You're saying the thermals with the BP are better than the ROG Chimera. I haven't really considered temps but that is good to know. I prefer Razer to most other brands, mainly because of design and build quality. The aluminum chassis has to be the reason for both the cooling and build quality.

BP screen is top notch too.

One concern I do have for the BP series is that they aren't actually high-performance desktop replacements. After seeing MSI squeeze two 1080s into a lappy, I'd really like to see RZR really push the limits on what actually fits in said chassis.

Thanks for the lead and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out.

What do you mean it became badass?

What do you mean it became Bahasa?

Bahasa... Did I mention it? You meant badass? One core, core 3 isn’t on my preferred temperature, 10 degrees difference on max compared to other isn’t really go, it may because time to repasting, or uneven heat sink that needs to adjust. But I found it firstly after putting 0 on voltage offset (non undervolting), that I mostly don’t use. Great to know though and I can put attention on this badass :wink_:

Bahasa...

LOL, yeah my phone did an auto correct on me and I hadn't noticed until after I posted

We diverged from the topic at hand slightly. Please let me know if anyone has any news on the BP update or perhaps another RTX flagship laptop.
