Blade 17 - external monitor via USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 not working | Razer Insider
Skip to main content
Just purchased this new Razer Blade 17. Connecting to an external monitor with a USB-C-to-display-port cable, and a straight display port cable. From either of the Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports. No signal detected from monitor. Whenever I plug in a monitor, NVIDIA control panel shows Optimus as the active graphics adapter. And the NVIDIA GPU becomes disabled and I'm unable to select. See screenshot.

I just used the Razer BIOS updater and updated the EC as well.

Model: (*Omitted)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I can confirm it's, and has been happening with my 2022 Blade 15. I can also confirm with 100% certainty it started with the last two driver updates from Nvidia. To me it looks like it's linked at least partially to Nvidia's Advanced Optimus tech. I hope/assume Razer has reached out to Nvidia by now because this issue has been standing for at least several months, and on a $3,500 laptop it's pretty unacceptable.

Your critique is duly noted. Can you send me a PM with the files from the instructions I've posted above so I can start an investigation on your behalf? Thanks for your cooperation.
I've got the same problem. My new Razer Blade 15 (2022) is connected to a Thunderbolt 4 Dock with different possibilities to connect Displays (DisplayPort, USB-C/Thunderbolt 4, HDMI). I use the USB-C Port to connect two identical Displays.

After I had installed the newest Nvidia driver, both displays, connected to the USB-C Ports, do not work. For investigation started to try all different ports to get a signal on my displays, but with no luck.

Today I found this post. The workaround to downgrade my Nvidia Studio Driver to 512.59 works. A few seconds after I downgraded the driver, both displays working on USB-C, and all other ports.

This workaround works for me, but it can't be the solution for the problem. I’m working 3D Software and heavy use GPU Rendering therefore I always need the newest Nvidia Studio driver.

I've installed BIOS Version Razer 1.09, 22.02.2022.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. And yes, I agree that the team should not stop here and continue working with our devs to generate a fix for the laptop's concern. Feel free to submit a case to our Support Team or send me a PM should you need additional assistance.

I've got the same problem. Even with the Razer dock it doesn't want to work. every other PC or laptop will display an output.

**FIXED..!!**

Spoke to the lovely chap at Razer Store in London, and he suggested a BIOS update for my 2021 Blade 17 Pro, and I updated from BIOS version 103 to 106 and it worked..!!

So, I'm running latest Nvidia drivers, latest Thunderbolt 4 drivers, latest Synapse and this BIOS update was the final key to the mystery :))

USB-C Touchscreen now works on Thunderbolt 4 port with a single cable.

I can confirm. Had the same issue wit my RAZER Blade15 Adv 2021. I downgraded the graphics drivers to 512.95 as some did, didnt work for me. Then proceded to update the BIOS form 1.06 to 2.02, couple of restars and works like a charm. Perfomed an update to the graphics drivers I downgraded before, still working (drivers version 516.94). Hope this helps!!

Only the 512.95 notebook drivers seem to work.

maybe I'l do some testing on a stripped driver. you can also do that by downloading NV Clean install.

Thanks for sharing! I hope that other Blade 15 Advance 2021 users find this handy.
I also confirm my Blade 15 2022 (RZ09-0421x) got the same problem after updating the graphics driver. Only by reinstalling 512.95 can the laptop return to normal.

Did anybody try the latest driver 516.94?

Which Blade 15 adv 2021 do you have? Mine is RZ09-0367 and I can't find any BIOS upgrade for it.
I have the same problem for my Razer Blade 14 (2022) 3070 Ti.

I connected a VR headset with a USB-C-to-display-port cable and it could only be supported by the internal AMD graphics but not the NVIDIA GPU.

Does anyone know whether there is any update can solve this problem?

I also have an RZ09-0421x with the same issue. Looks like this problem still exists in 516.94 according to page 13 of the release notes:

At least with the release notes we can track the issue with each driver release without resorting to testing it.
Can't believe this is still an issue. I wish I wasn't passed the return date, not a fan of being stuck with something that isn't working right...
Can someone check if have the same strange behavior ? Driver 512.15 left tb4 port detect monitor but dont give still signal to monitor but tb4 dock worka fine and right tb4 port give signal to monitor without issues. If i’m not wrong both sides tb4 ports Should have direct connection to nvidia card.blade 17 2022 RZ09-0423* (Omitted the other characters)

I replied to your PM, BlackFireDragon. Let's continue our conversation privately as I want to kick-start a support ticket for your laptop's concern too.
Is there any progress in addressing this issue, for Nvidia drivers past 512.15?

It has been well over a month. I do not want to be stuck to an older version of the display drivers indefinitely.

I understand you want to operate your machine while using its latest firmware version. However, the issue is still under investigation. Should our devs finalize the fix, they will either post on the laptop affect laptop's support page or send it through Razer Synapse updates. We appreciate everyone's cooperation.
I may have to return mine too. Their support system is too complicated
Is there any progress in this case? I can‘t use G Snych over HDMI and i don‘t want to stuck with older drivers. Please fix it. Its a $ 4.000 notebook!
Just purchased new Razer Blade 14. I use a razer docking. Connecting to an external monitor with a thunderbolt cable. From either of the Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports. No signal detected from monitor. works perfectly fine if I use a dongle to covert the thunderbolt to HDMI on the razer docking.

I rolled back the Navidia driver per suggestion. did nothing.

For me this driver fix the issue. You can check if there is any bios update for your laptop. You can also try if dont mistake driver uninstaller when you remove driver gór graphic card disable wifi or disconnect ethernet cable uninstall driver and Run this app it will remove registry enteries and filles that was not removed then restart laptop but dont turn on wifi or ethernet cable install driver 512.15 or lower restart again then check if external monitor works.
