Bring back undervolting!

Spent $4650 on your top of the line Razer Blade 16 so that I could have a portable gaming rig with full native overclocking support. Undervolting was the biggest part of that equation. Running -.125 was perfectly stable and gave a 15% performance bump, 10+ degree temp reduction, and much less fan noise under load. Now it's slower, hotter, louder, and has frequent hangs/stutters that weren't there before.

By forcing undervolt protection, you've completely ruined the system, my enjoyment of it, and the chances that I'll ever buy another razer system.

At least make it optional with a warning...

Me to, this is rly bad, I wrote to support and I even feel that the value of the notebook has decreased because it is louder, hotter and also has less power…😥

They should have provided some notice of their concerns with undervolting before just sneaking it in. I too was using it and was surprised by the change. It did make a difference in temps and performance. I mailed my RB16 4090 today because the cpu package was having brief spikes 107c with cpu on boost, gpu on high with fans on high and on a razer stand. even with CPU on low and gpu on medium, i was having 103c spikes on the cpu package. GPU was always good temp wise, but the cpu was frequently hitting 100c and thermal throttling.

 

I’m just hoping that they can fix this and not simply replace with parts or a new system that has the same problem.

Razerfolk, you can use another program to undervolt. Razer hasn't locked the CPU, only removed the option in Synapse. 

 

I use ThrottleStop to undervolt the CPU core and cache and it works perfectly. 

 

Actually, here's a video where someone did it to a Razer 16.

It does need to run in the background, like Synapse so you'll have to set it up to run on startup (or physically open it whenever you log on).

Seriously, this is ridiculous. Performance and temperatures have worsened noticably on my 18 since this “protection” was put in. Please remove it and allow undervolting again.

On 9/27 Razer released an updated Bios that added undervolting protection option. This replaced the undervolting protection option in synapse.

Hello all. I’m confused (and a complete noob at all of this.) The undervolt slider for core voltage is still gone, even with the recent bios update version I did. Is that normal? Also, if so, is XTU the way to now undervolt rather then synapse?

I am concerned my recently purchased Razer 16 is idling atm quite high I feel, at least the fans are constantly blowing. Apologies if this is the wrong place to be posting.

Once downloading the new Bios you have to go into it and enable the undervolting option. That won’t give you the slider back in Synapse but it will allow you to use other programs (XTU/Throttlestop) to make changes.

Thanks Kamauxx. When you say: “you have to go into it”, does ‘it’ refer to Synapse and clicking the CPU overclocking toggle? Or something in the BIOS interface? And thanks for clarifying on the rest. One other question please, do you prefer XTU or Throttlestop?

In Bios there's an option for undervolt protection. You have to click that option directly in the Bios menu. 

 

I use ThrottleStop. I've researched XTU but decided to stir with ThrottleStop since it doesn't have some of the issues I've read about with XTU (settings sporadically reverting to default, no option to load on startup). Intel may have fixed it since I last researched though.
