Create Thread: Razer Blade 14 I7 6700HQ SSD upgrade
Hi, been looking into getting a 1 or 2TB SSD. I know I need a M.2 PCIe drive but was wondering what to get. Looking at https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/reviews/best-ssds,3891.html it says 'But to make use of that speed today, you'll need either an X570 motherboard or B550 board on the AMD side or a new Z590 motherboard from Intel.'.
So was wondering if it is cost-effective to get a PCIe v4 drive (and will it even work) or are other cheaper drives just as fast (considering my laptop is a few years old and I don't know if it supports the latest PCIe standards). I am very happy with the speed of the supplied drive and don't want to pay top dollar for the best drive if it will not get any benefit due to the motherboard. Lots of googling has not helped me work out what version of PCIe the laptop has (which version/generation is it).
So if someone can help me with the version of PCIe or good recommendations for which SSD to go for that would be great.
