Also got my 15 yesterday. Here my firestrike result: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/26797099?

14865

-0.145mv, +185 gpu core, +600 gpu mem

Well, after doing more test, and after contacting support, my blade 15 will also go RMA. Same as @Firebat246 I played battlefield 1 and Far Cry 5 and my cpu was reaching 100C under 5 mins of play at default voltage and clock speeds in both games. Also tried undervolting cpu at -0.145mv, same issue. :(

Hitting 100C after 5 mins of gaming at default gpu/cpu voltage and clock speed.
Hitting 100C after 8 mins of gaming at -0.145mv, +185 gpu core, + 600 gpu mem. (little gpu overcloak)
Hitting 100C after 10 mins of gaming at -0.145mv, +100 gpu core, +300 gpu mem (blade gpu default clock speed)

The gpu temp are fine, even overcloaked, it never go over 80C. It's another story for the CPU, any settings I try, it reach the cpu die limit at 100C.

Did you monitor cpu clock speed? We're you getting power limit throttled or just thermal? What frequency were you sitting at or fluctuating around?

Yep, power limit is throttling a lot via XTU monitoring.

Did you try limiting processors state? change from 100 to 99%, maybe it’ll help.

It's interesting I don't know why some people are having no issues and others are getting exactly what you and I are. Especially the correlation between thermals and power limit. Normally it's throttles from temps or power. But both? The power limit is what really has me stumped.

I'm seeing some very odd CPU behavior. Comparing the Blade '18 to the MSI GS65 which both have the exact same CPU undervolted -140, the GS65 is consistently scoring higher in CPU benchmarks. Passmark CPU is 13131 on the Blade and 13988 on the MSI.

When gaming, GS65 is maintaining around 3.9ghz speed vs the Blade which is dropping down to 3.3 or so. Strangely HWiNFO shows no throttling on the Blade but the GS65 is throttling, yet it benchmarks as the faster CPU

Is this the power throttling you're referring to? If so, can this be prevented?

Firebat246 I hope your new unit comes without problems. Do you know of people who has got good temps and no throttling so far?

Basically power limit throttling is when the CPU needs more wattage than the TDP the CPU is rated at. This is where "Turbo Boost Power Max" comes into play. It allows the CPU to "Turbo" Over the Wattage it's rated at. You can still undervolt for temps but set the Turbo Boost higher to push the watts above where it keeps "power limit throttling". The PSU that comes with the Blade is enough to drive the 8750H at full speed rated for 4/6 cores. There is no reason that if you can keep thermals in check that you shouldn't be able to keep those speeds up.

Yes I know of people that have blades that can maintain proper clocks and CPU temps peak in the 80s.
Firebat246
I did not think of that ok great! Then i'll put that on the list of things i'm about to take some pics of the box and contents for you guys.

Here's some pictures i'm about to turn it on and begin setup.

Beauty and the Beast 😃
Just got my Blade 15 a couple of days ago and ran mine through Fire Strike. Compared to the 14k i have seen here this is slightly low but its not at 12k so i dunno haha.

So this just happened:

https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/26806079?

CPU: Undervolt -.145mv

GPU Core +190
Memory +500

Power settings set to Balanced and fan speed set to max (5000)

Going to try some Farcry and Battlefield 1 and see how thermals look. Still have a feeling in game I will have issues but i'll be back with details.

It’s above normal FS graphics score for maxq 1070 and physical score is standard, so actually that’s normal score. How was temperature while doing that, was it also gaming mode? Physical score could be improved if you closing all applications that opened, overall score on my Blade 2017 could be bumped by uninstalling nvidia experience, idk on Blade 15 though.

How did that happen? It wasn’t “just“, right?;) Was that after installing or updating something, or is it just because the system still cool?

Well After seeing Firebat pushed the fan speed to 5000 i did the same and had improvement.
Before pushing the fan speed cpu temps were 80-95c after changing the speed they were 60-90c
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/26812670 I think this is the limit for mine.

How are the noise levels when idle and other light tasks ?

When Idle its very silent compared to my 2017 blade 14. When you change to performance thats when you start to hear some muscle come out of the fans

Good to know that, that means it’s really really dead silent, I’ve Blade 2017 which silent on idle. I think because i limited the processors state on it for better battery life.

I remember there was a user who had decent FS score on Blade 2017, with ASPM tweak he had 10K score without OC and I was only got around 9,7K. I think there’s GPU Silicon lottery play a big role on that.

Honestly changing the power settings from max performance to balanced is what did it. However I was still getting a lot of power limit throttling and even with the undervolt of -.145 I saw temps hit low 90s. It did make my performance a lot better and within spec that this hardware should be running, but I'm still hoping the other issues are resolved with my replacement.

Also there is no reason that at max performance power settings I should be hitting 100c on CPU thermals.
hey all, joining this thread late. Here's what I've been able to achieve in performance mode, with fans at 5k.
No undervolt yet, what are you guys using to undervolt? Manually via bios?

Yes this hardware and new software that comes with it made the performance nearly a full gtx 1070 and beat already the competitors but only that CPU holding my decision, because I need that cpu score to pair with my expensive “Hobby” setting;) I don’t care about GPU inside it even an 1050ti max q is okay, 30% cpu upgrade means a lot to me but with that high cores thermal I’m thinking twice now:/

Just use xtu or throttle stop. If you have never undervolted before xtu is more user friendly. You should be able to easily achieve at least a -.110mv.

Thanks fire bat. Have you opted to manually overclock the GPU as opposed to just going into performance mode?

Hi @Firebat246 did you also maybe get that chroma laptops stand? Curious no one talking about that, it has USB ports like base station which is nice. Hi @Razer...anyone, where is that gifts that comes with system, usually you give it with systems purchase even at first wave before, it’s nice to have that, that made me always buying directly from Razer instead Amazon here in EU.

I bought it, nothing to really talk about, it's just a laptop stand with chroma at the bottom. USB ports are great indeed. :)

Also my replacement also got shipped, let's just hope it doesn't have power throttling and thermal issue this time. I should have it in the middle of this week.

Is it from metal? It is usb powered like usb A tipe HUB right? It’ll be nice if you can upload some pictures of it. Website pictures always edited well I think.
