New Stealth MX150 Unplugged Performance?
Hey all,
I know that with the full sized Blades there's a performance drop when trying to run games unplugged (the GPU requires more power than the battery can provide).
I'm curious if there's a similar effect with the MX150 on the new Blade Stealths, or if you can expect maximum performance from a system that's unplugged?

BTW These are after Throttlestop tuning.
I didnt touch anything in Nvidia GeForce Experience but I turned on all battery saving options in Intel UHD Graphics Control Panel. And you are right, it does look like something is locking battery performance to 30FPS.. I'll play with the options later today.
Interesting, thanks so much for doing this work. I really hope that there is just something limiting your FPS.
If the MX150 simply underperforms while unplugged I question its usefulness. The whole point of that GPU seems to be providing graphical power while not docked at an eGPU or at home where a more powerful gaming machine is present. So if the laptop can't fully utilize its dGPU while mobile, what's the point?
Changing settings in Intel UHD didn't improve the FPS. In fact I'm getting even lower FPS in DOTA2 today, 19~25ish. And I checked GeForce Experience, the battery boost function is only supported by GTX cards, so it is unavailable to Stealth with MX150.
To my observation, I think the seemingly 30FPS cap is just a coincidence of reduced GPU performance, since FPS in main screen and loading screen was around 40ish to 50. I may be wrong though.
Regarding you last point, having a dedicated (but weak) GPU in an ultrabook makes sense to me, because gaming is not the only activitiy getting benifits from it. I'm an interior designer, and having an MX150 in Stealth actually helps with my CAD works. I no longer need to wait seconds before next input when changing design on site.
Also, low power draw means a more compact power supply. With total weight of approximately 1.6kg, I'm able to bring my entire setup to a coffee shop with ease and kill time (and enemy) with style.
