Well, I first thought Razer was tracking in the right direction for the last few BIOS/Synapse updates (max fan toggle, keeping CPU unlocked for undervolting, etc.)

This lastest debacle is just sad, though. 

At this point in time, all Blade 16 and 18 users (of which, many spent ~$4K or more on said devices) are now forced to choose between:

  1. Losing the ability to toggle max fans in Custom Mode, which is necessary if you are pushing for performance (who wouldn’t be on a ~$5,000 device like the Blade 18 4090, which is advertised as a Desktop Replacement)

    or
     
  2. Losing undervolting, the ability to disable Secure Boot (which is the way to access ru.efi and do BIOS modifications) and ultimately end up with significantly worse performance and louder fan noise

Taking away something that was touted and promised in your device lineup for the year, is not great. Taking away something ELSE to try to take away a main feature is even worse.

There is no way around this. It is currently impossible to roll back Synapse to avoid losing the max-fan toggle, even if you can keep undervolting by opting out of the latest BIOS update.

Razer, if you don’t want tons of people complaining, returning their devices, amogst other things, fix this.

There is absolutely no need to force your customers’ hands like this. It’s a shameful business practice, and can’t even be rectified by advanced users through unique workarounds or modifications.

Yes, undervolted in OS level have some security concern, but i think they should give us a option, no just disabling it.

Rollback to bios v1.07, problem gone… as simple as that… + ram is now back to 5600mhz. Kek

To confirm, does this BIOS update completely eliminate the ability to undervolt using ALL tools, including XTU and/or Throttlestop, or does it just remove the ability to undervolt using Razer Synapse?

 

I would really hate if Razer removed the ability to undervolt altogether, but the patch notes on the support website make it sound like undervolting will still be allowed, just only via XTU. Can anyone provide any clarification?

I’m having similar ish issues as well.

When I updated my Razer Blade 16 BIOS to 2.01 the laptop has behaved very choppy and unstable.

The processor seems to possibly overheat, then throttle itself to low a ghz settings and then stay in that state for prolonged periods of time. Making games unplayable due to the locked processor and extremely low fps.

I have attempted to change settings in Razer Synapse from Silent to Balanced and then to Overclock to no avail, with no change in the processor state.  The only thing that seems to do the trick is a restart, but restarting a $4000 laptop every 5-10 min… well… enough said.  

This needs to be fixed.  At this point my old 2018 razer blade 15 performs better than my shiny new toy.

I've made adjustments in TS and saved them. But when going back to TS the adjustments are back to their default values. So, oddly, even though it isn't locked Razer resets the undervolt changes. I'm assuming XTU would be the same but I can't verify.

Huh? You’re saying a new bios I just checked a minute ago and the most recent bios (or firmware) I can see being listed was from Sept 27… (i.e. version 2.02)

It's 2.02, and yes, it gives the undervolt protection option in Bios. 

Rollback to bios v1.07, problem gone… as simple as that… + ram is now back to 5600mhz. Kek 

Hey, I just downgrade BIOS to 1.07, and the ram is back on 5600mhz, but I still lose the underbolt option in synapse, is that becasue the synapse upgrade to the latest version automaticlly? hope you can give me some help.

Synapse no longer provides undervolting options. You now have to use another program to undervolt your system.
