Razer Blade GTX1060 2016 not booting... again | Razer Insider
Skip to main content
Hi Guys,

coming back after a while, because my Blade 2016 GTX1060 is not starting again.

I had this issue back in January 2018, had to send it to a Razer selected German repair-guy.

He replaced the PCBA, and it work again... not perfectly but it worked.

Now, April 2020, same issue occurs again. Just find somebody who post a video of the problem in September 2018: /razer-blade-2016-full-hd-black-screen-not-starting.42344/

Is it normal it happened again ?

can I repair it myself now it is out of warranty ?

Thanks for your help !
Sorry to hear that, green light on means that your device is on but screen off, usually if you’re using only external monitor. So if you’ve external monitor or TV try to output the video through like HDMI, maybe internal screen issue, something like screen wiring.
Nothing to do with the screen, it displays the Bios panel perfectly. It just doesn't start. I tried to boot on a USB drive, its led flashes a little meaning the data are read but nothing more.

the symptoms are the exact same than in 2018 :

- power up

- bios menu

- screen flashes and turns black

- keyboard, screen and fans remain on

- nothing more happens

The problem is the PCBA.

My concerns are: if I change/repair it, will it happen again in 2 years?
Hey maybe that will help you https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/811oRk1oVML.pdf

Okay, the thing is you can’t display blade bios on external display. It’s also for checking board (gpu) connection if the machine on.
I'm out of warranty now, how much do you think Razer will charge me to repair it?

If I repair it, how to avoid this happenning again? => is there any upgrade possible (to a motherboard version that doesn't melt)? by Razer? by any other geek who found a way to tune it?

Before, only diagnosis was €80 i think now is higher it was like 3 or 4 years ago, plus parts, for PCB placement out of guarantee it’ll be expensive, under 1K euro you’re already lucky. For more details and accuracy you can rise ticket ask support (germany), or ask directly online support per phone (idk if during pandemic they’re easily to catch), they’re nice in my experience.

To avoid mobo defect on Blade best you can do is to monitor the temperatures and doing things that can keep it not running hot like on 90ish cpu and 80ish gpu, my old 2015 14 QHD+ Blade was fine on its 2 years gaming usage and sold on mint condition for €1600 in 2017.

ty for the link but this answered 0 part of his question. yes its happening yes it voids warranty so how do we fix it
Why not just give Razer a call or open up a chat with support? They're probably the only ones who are going to give you an accurate, up-to-date quote on the repair cost.

That being said, the old Blade 14's are known for having heat issues. It's likely that you're going to continue experiencing problems if you repair the laptop again. It may be time for an upgrade.
