Same doubt here... I would very much like to hear a reliable answer, ideally from a Razer rep. I found this thread on Reddit (for Razer Thresher Ultimate, though), and some people are testifying that, yes, it is compatible, even without the optical cable. Don't know if it is trustworthy...

That sucks. Even though this answer was about the Xbox Series X, I doubt the PS5 will be any different. Damn it. So, I guess I'll have to sell my Thresher along with my PS4 Pro when I get the PS5. ... and spend more money on a headset for it.

For the record: Astro owners are in better shape than us: Astrogaming has provided detailed official information about compatibility with next-gen consoles, and they will even provide firmware upgrades (along with an "HDMI adapter") to ensure forward-compatibility...

Also, as far as I could understand from the comments on this official (somewhat old) Sony post on the Playstation blog, headsets that rely on optical cable for sound might work on the PS5, but voice chat will not be mixed with game sound (and sound quality will most likely be inferior). This seems to be consistent with information provided by Astrogaming on the previous post.

Hi all,
I own a pair of Razer Thresher 7.1 headsets and can confirm that they also work with PS5. That's the good news. The bad news is that the sound quality is not nearly as good as how it is on PS4. For instance, playing COD MF multiplayer or Warzone, where one has to rely most of the time on the sound of footsteps, the audio cues are not as prominent as they are on PS4. Sound is pretty much flat, and more or less lifeless. Now, having that said, you still can enjoy a game session that doesn't depend so much on audio cues. But, overall, these headsets delivered an entirely different experience on PS4. One that you enjoyed.
Here's another fun fact. I also own the Razer Nari Ultimate, which I use with my PC. Switched that one over just for the heck of it. That too - which is not PS4 certified - also worked. Base cues were better - however at the expense of delivering 'meh' midrange tones. And as for the haptic feedback, sorry no go.
Hope this helped.

Thanks for the feedback @Canarypolyflow807 . These are not good news, but it is important to be sure about what to expect. And, to be honest, I was expecting something like this...
I've been thinking about this crazy idea: I have a Samsung tv that has an optical audio port (which I am using as input to my home theater). Would Thresher work if I put a Toslink splitter and plugged one of its outputs to the Thresher USB dongle? Essentially I would be deceiving it to believe the audio is coming from the PS5, when in reality it will be coming from tv. Does it make any sense?

You're welcome. I do follow your point. To answer your question though, I honestly have to say I don't know. I would guess not, for the reason you'd probably find yourself with all sorts of problems in terms of receiving both the chat audio and game audio simultaneously - and without any faults or flaws. Did you ever get to use Astro's HDMI adapter? Apparently they are selling them separately now on Amazon. Be careful if purchasing the generic variations, since they have been around for a very long time, and most probably the majority of them don't support HDMI 2.0b let alone 2.1. I think that would be the only workaround at this juncture. But, yet again I could be wrong.

Yeah, I also have serious doubts it will work. I will give it a try though, since these splitters are reasonably cheap, and I doubt I will be able to get a hand on these Astro adapters anytime soon (my guess is that they will be pretty expensive and hard to find here in Brazil). Also, I might be wrong, but if I recall correctly optical audio doesn't include voice chat -- at least I don't recall hearing it on the home theater ('m really not sure). Anyway, I will give it a try once my PS5 finally arrives (scheduled for Feb 3), and let you guys know. In the meantime, any other feedback -- positive or negative -- is welcome ;-) Cheers!

Hi all, hope you all had a great Christmas. Just for the record, YouTube just suggested me this video that suggests my theory (using tv's optical audio port) will work (aside from the splitter, I hope it doesn't introduce any lag). Fingers crossed!

Hi, I own Razer Thresher for PS4 and like all of you I've tried to make them work on PS5, with only the USB device the sound was poor but then I bought the ASTRO HDMI splitter and today I've tried to set it up and now I can hear game sound very well. Tonight I'm going to test the microphone and party audio and then I'll let you know.

OPALbestWindsorTan216Hi, yesterday I tried the headphones and now they work like a charm. So I can tell you that with the ASTRO HDMI adapter they work flawlessly.

aeroPhloxresources275That's odd... AFAIK you should be able to pair it, but without the optical cable connection, audio quality will be inferior, and you probably will lose the ability to do voice chat. While on the subject, I have some good news: I did finally manage to test my crazy idea (optical out from TV + Toslink splitter to Thresher's dongle), and it worked! =) (at least audio quality is the same it was on PS4 as far as I can "see" -- haven't tested audio chat yet though).

aeroPhloxresources275Doesn't it appear as an output option when you press the PS button on the controller and navigate to the audio settings? For me it appears as the default option (but, as I mentioned, the optical cable is connected, don't know if it makes a difference on this case)

PortlandOrangeJETgeo295Hi, I just want to update you after few months of use. The Astro HDMI adapter stopped working after two months, so after this I don't think it's worth to buy.I bought another HDMI extractor (the brand is Ezcoo) to try with it. In the beginning the sound quality was pretty low ( It was stereo I think) so I can't hear footsteps on Warzone and during games cutscenes the audio was very hard to hear. So I decided to change Audio settings on the PS5 as it follows: HDMI Device Type: AV Amplifier Number of channels: 5.1 ch Output to Headphones: Chat Audio Audio Format (Priority): Bitstream (Dolby) *this is different from what It's written on the manual of the Tresher that sais it should be Linear PCM With this setup the audio is like on my PS4 Pro and also the party chat works well. The last things I need to test is to set the number of channels to 7.1 to see if something changes and today I'll try to see if the audio from cutscenes works correctly. Hope this could be helpfull for someone.
