Guys, is it safe to use the Stealth on your lap? I know it's usually not advised because the heat can damage your dong and your ability to father children, but when it's on battery, with minimum power settings (low brightness, battery saver from Windows & Synapse, etc.) and just opening chrome tabs, it stays very cool.
Is it still not advised? What do you think?

So I almost always have mine on my lap. On the table, it's almost too far away. In addition, the fan always runs up when it is on a straight surface. I think it's ok and to endure when he's on his lap. The lower CPU fan should be able to pull air.
Hello everyone! I'm currently out of the US, but I had a friend pick me up an RBS2019 from the Microsoft store for $1,049 which seemed like a great deal. As I will only be in the states briefly in November, it would be a pain to take care of any RMA issues then. I was thinking of having them test a few things for me while still in the return period to make sure I got a good unit.

What tests should we perform? How can I test for coil whine? If I have him simply boot up the computer, would the coil whine be present? Is there anything else I should test?

Thanks so much!

How can I test for coil whine?

Have them put synapse in balance mode with the device plugged-in, open a few Chrome Tabs, the Battle.net launcher and Steam, and have them use the computer normally for a while.

Not necessarily. I have next to no coil whine on my unit when the laptop is on battery, unless I really do heavy tasks, which I don't do on battery anyway. I usually have the lowest brightness settings, low power on Synapse, etc. So my laptop remains completely silent.
When it's plugged-in though, I have that persisting buzzing noise. I've grown used to it and i no longer pay attention to it though, it's not a dealbreaker for me.

The coil whine is something that almost everyone experiences to some degree (I think the people who say they don't ever have it just don't notice :wink_:).

Big issues I would look out for are:

Coil whine and Speaker Crackling: I would have your friend record these and share their impressions. While it's normal, it might be more annoying than you're willing to put up with, so decide before you leave the U.S.

Battery drains while gaming with the laptop plugged in.
Note: it's normal for the battery to drain down to 95% while plugged in. Anything below that and your AC adapter isn't keeping up with the power draw of the laptop.

Trackpad Works As Expected: Some users have experienced issues with unresponsive touchpads.

The "Blade Stealth Bible" thread in my signature goes over other common issues/workarounds, and the comments section in there might be helpful too.

Cheers, I hope you don't have any issues!
Thanks! I do have a question regarding CPU performance. I've seen talk that the recent BIOS updates are throttling the CPU and causing significant impacts on gaming, even while plugged in. Does anybody have experience that can confirm or deny this?

I'm wondering if it would be worth waiting for next gen CPU's to come out, since they are supposed to be lower power and therefore may not throttle? I was hoping to use an eGPU so having if the CPU throttles it would be an even bigger bottleneck.

Cheers

I think that it's too soon to tell what the effects of the latest BIOS and EC updates really are--different people are having different experiences, and ultimately the throttling is something that was present before any of those updates. Razer has baked in certain power limits that don't really correlate with temperature at all, so it's hard to say that the next-gen CPU's will make much of a difference in that regard.

The next-gen CPU's do look enticing for some other reasons, though. The integrated graphics are a big upgrade over the current generation, and even though they don't quite beat out the MX150, the power savings you get from not needing to run a dedicated GPU is really enticing. Also, they'll likely sort out the coil whine and speaker crackle for the refreshed model. Not mention, Razer has been aggressively discounting the current-gen Stealth, so I'm wondering if that refresh is due soon.

That dude isn’t trying or searching hard enough, there’s apparently way to get rid of it like on Blade 15. But not quite sure yet since I don’t have your stealth to test but you can check my Reddit posts, had quite long “fun“ conversation there:smile_: with a user who applied (advanced full control on 8750H) tweak to stealth 8565U, I find there’s some risk but personally I would try if I’ve 2019 stealth since I did same on Blade 15 and found Pro and Contra. Your stealth guide was also being talked there btw.
You know it just hit me, but does anyone else think the Blade Stealth is on sale to make way for a refreshed model with a 10000 series cpu and a mx250? That would be welcome. Although I'd like to see a mobile ryzen model with Vega graphics. The timing on the reduced price seems to good to be a coincidence.:wink_:

TFW you bought it 1600€ and it's on sale for 999$ in the US lol.

In computex intel showed this stealth with that cpu engineering model, it reported better than ryzen cpu with Vega. Happy google translate:smile_:

So intel is taking their integrated gpu seriously again? I like the sound of that. Hopefully we get that as a consumer model. Might help with the battery drain issue that the current model has.

There’re two model, base is weak UHD32EU and iris plus (48EU~64EU) on top model 64EU which has ctdp 25 watt for more performance, similar with whisky lake 8656U which take a lot power and it’ll throttle down to 12 watt for manage power supply, in the end of the day it’ll back to manufactures setting if they put 25 watt stable with iris pro 64 it’ll be a decent machine. I’m interested on how the stealth option would be since 2019 stealth use nvidia low tier dgpu.

Hopefully it makes it more reliable. I'm sure someone will figure out how to overrite the settings and let the cpu run at full boost for longer. Though I hope razer just starts the base model with 16gb of ram. No more 8gb please. Lol
I hope this "new" stealth is going to be more than just a Tiger Lake refresh. It's said that the new intel iGPU is as fast as the MX250, which would mean no dGPU, if razer decides on just that. I hope it will feature a GTX1650Max-Q alongside the new CPU. Why? Because it would be THE ultrabook to get then. MSI has their upcoming Prestige 14" with Tiger Lake + a 1650MQ, so i'd say razer can do it too, and better, with that fance vapor chamber.

Wait, tiger lake? You skipped ice and comet lake:big_grin_:. Icelake and cometslake would come first, and unfortunately no intel still behind in gpu department, their mobile gpu iris pro on icelake apparently isn’t close enough to entry level nvidia mobile MX150 25watt on stealth.

It’s according PCworld.

Shame they aren't using the stealth as a direct comparison. The Matebook throttles like an engine without oil from what I've been told. Still it looks close. But, if it uses less power it might be a good alternative. Just hopefully they lower the price so we aren't shelling out $1500 for an entry level model. Lol

Not going to lie, with intel releasing three gens in rapid fire i lost track of which is the most current. I asumed the leaked benchmarks of the "fastest iris igpu" where said current gen.

If see, however there’s already Geekbench for Blade stealth late 2019 with i7 1065g7.

You called it! It got the 1650. Pretty exciting. Curious what the battery life is going to be like, though.
