Razer Blade 15 Advanced + Ultrawide + Core x - is it worth it?

Nope. Save the money. You wont get much more performance (10-20% more fps maybe) from a core even with a 2080Ti in there. You can buy a whole other laptop by the time you drop enough money to make any impact. The 2070maxq is good enough for the x34p.

Has anyone any experience of adding a Core (X,V2 etc) with this kind of set-up and experienced any benefits in their ability to up the quality of gaming while maintaing high frame rates?

This is pretty close to my exact set up :smile_: I have a Core-X egpu running a RTX 2060-Super, and a 2019 Razer advanced model with a RTX 2070 GPU. Now let me preface my post and say I got the Egpu before I bought my Razer laptop. With that said, I find that in many games, I'm getting about 10% better frame rates on the eGPU. Oddly, I'm seeing better performance out of Fallout 76 on the laptop's gpu instead of egpu. But that's just part of the story, with the egpu, I find my temps are much better, and thus the fans are running at a lower speed. With the egpu, its largely a quieter experience, especially since I picked a graphics card that won't spin up the fans until needed, its very quiet. Would I say its worth it? No, but since I bought the egpu for another computer that subsequently got replaced, I have what I have ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ I thought about selling it, and maybe I will at some point but overall, I am happy with the egpu but as mentioned above, the performance difference isn't earth-shattering.

Thank you for the reply. What games are you playing and what kinds of settings do you have them on? I've been playing COD recently and getting the following types of framerates (mid range quality settings) - @3440x1440 BFV I've set to low @3440x1440 and get these framerates Dips are mostly menus.

Does the core disable your internal GPU? Or have you seen that happen to you? Also, are you able to reconnect the core after disconnecting it without rebooting?

I play Fallout 76 and some older games that don't fully push the GPU, but I've also played the Tomb Raider series which does. For Tomb Raider I had the detail set to high I also played OuterWorlds and I tend to set the details to high/ultra

Yes, it relies solely on the external GPU and as such the laptop runs cooler thanks to that. For other games, like Cities Skylines which uses both CPU and GPU heavily, the external GPU doesn't help as much. Heat from the CPU keeps my laptop toasty for that one game.

It makes sense that you may still see some performance improvements in some CPU-heavy games. Even if you're getting less graphics performance from the eGPU, your CPU has a lot more room to breath when the cooling system isn't trying to deal with both in the same cramped aluminum chassis.
