Blade 14 fan noise reduction options?

I have a Razer Blade 14 2016. After updating the firmware noise reduced considerably; I did it a long time ago but now my Razer makes less noise than a Dell XPS 15 or a macbook. Here: https://support.razer.com/gaming-laptops/razer-blade-v5/ Section: My Razer Blade 2016 (GTX 1060) seems to have excessive fan noise, even when it is only idling. Make sure to select your exact system, and also be careful with the other patches. I fully patched my system a week ago and some things are not working as expected.

Thanks for the response. Run through updates and all I've got after running all of them was pop up screen saying: "This firmware tool is for use only with Blade and compatible system. The application will close now." Which I assume it means laptop is already updated, still though I have old 2016 BIOS without turboboost configuration option. Thanks

To disable turbo boost you can use windows power setting (max processors state set to 99%) or using intel xtu and disable it (there’s button to check/uncheck it).

So the problem I have after purchasing 2016 Blade 14 is that is CPU after reaching 80 C turns laptop fans into jet mode - it's really loud. Only solution that partially helped thus far is that after proper research I reduce CPU mV by 150 and in MSI Afterburner I set up different pattern of GTX1060 GPU usage. What helped the most is to reduce graphic settings in game.. not fully satisfied with this option so: What are my options now? 1. I was thinking about getting external GPU with Core X. Have anyone noticed that after using ex.GPU fan noise is reduced comparing to using internal GPU? 2. Disable turboboost in BIOS? Not sure if that will be any of help but I can't do it since I have old 2016 BIOS version. 3. Change paste in thermals. Most likely will not help a to great exented as others reported similiar issue. 4. Sell Blade and buy stationary. All info appreciated. Yes using egpu means your dgpu inside Blade would be off that made bigger cooling room inside, Fans would be quieter, but keep in mind egpu enclosure has also fans, new noise would come but on my experience with core v2 it isn’t as loud as playing on Blade dgpu. 2. Which cpu do you have, is it 6700HQ? Sorry to ask but sometimes users think that 7700HQ is 2016 model and try flashing wrong bios that brings that error message. You can rise support ticket as well to get right bios version on your model, I believe cs would send you one like. 3. Repasting may lower the Fans noise if you can lower the temperature, if 80ish is starting point for high Fans rpm, right repasting would keep it under 80 and keep lower rpm. I had 2017 14 which has similar cooling with late 2016 it was indeed louder on gaming compared to current Blade 15 advanced with vapor chamber. Side note did you try also different profile on Synapse, I think there’re quite and cool mode. My setting was quite mode, undervolting-125mV, and max processor state on 99% to limit the turbo boost, though on late 2016 that I had around 2 weeks the Fans was more aggressive but for that I got a bit lower cpu temperature compared my 2017 7700HQ. 4. If you don’t need performance on the go, it’ll better having bigger system like a tower to have quite and cooler unit. Thin light gaming laptops is more for enthusiast imo, users have to monitor and tweak the setting to get better experience and reliable usage, loud Fans is something that is expected on this category, but every manufacturer including Razer is going to right way with their cooling management only it also depends on intel and Nvidia how they put more power efficient chips to be able to cool properly on thin light laptops.

Are you sure you're using the appropriate update for your system? did you check the product code?

I had very good results repasting my 2017 blade with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. That will get you an immediate improvement in temperatures, especially during light tasks. But during gaming, your fans are always going to be ramping up. As Joikansai pointed out, eGPUs will reduce the thermal load because the GPU won't be producing any heat, and the whole cooling system can just work on cooling your CPU. Ultimately, running my Blade 14 with an Aorus Gaming Box was the most comfortable solution I found, but that particular eGPU can be noisy sometimes, too.

Gonna try repasting. At some point I am going to buy eGPU but someone adviced me to go for Razer Core X as I am going for Vega 64. Thanks
