7.1 Surround Sound Software - Do you need to have it open even after install

Hello Everyone, I have the Kraken X. I downloaded and installed the "7.1 Surround Sound" software using my activation code. My Windows 10 now sees "7.1 Surround Sound" as an Audio Output which is good. My question is - this 7.1 surround sounds software is also a program that is now open on my desktop and it also wants to start when windows starts. Do i need to have this program open in the background to somehow take advantage of the 7.1 surround sound? or can i close the program completely and as long as i select "7.1 Surround Sound" as my audio output in Windows, that will work?
