Blackwidow elite lighting problem

Hi I recently purchased my first Razer item, the blackwidow elite, and noticed that no matter what effect I used for the lighting or what profile I used the lights on my keyboard would stay on for a bit, then freeze for like a second in whatever configuration they were in, turn off for another second before turning on again and unfreezing. This loop continues over and over again. Is this just how the lights function on this keyboard or am I doing something wrong ? xD Help would be appreciated.
