Corsair 32 gb x 2 @ 3200 mhz not working on Razer 17 early 2019, how to adjust memory speed?
Hello all thanks for any help
I am attempting to install two sticks of Corsair 32 gb DDR4-3200 1.2V Cl.22 in my Razer blade pro 17" early 2019. BIOS recognizes that 64 GB of ram is installed and cites the speed as 3200 mhz.
The computer freezes up repeatedly, sometimes I can boot and log in and use it for a little bit but within a few minutes it inevitably freezes up. I assume if I change the RAM speed to 2666 this probably will fix the issue. However I do not see anywhere in the BIOS settings where I can do this. I tested the RAM sticks with windows memory diagnostic and they pass. I'm sure it's a speed issue.
Googling the issue it seems there is something called an XMP, xtreme memory profile, which one can activate and change memory settings. Usually this is to make the RAM run faster, but in my case I want it to run slower. I assume it could also be used for that purpose?
Most BIOSes I have worked with, have options to set the memory speed available in the BIOS. Im on the american megatrends 1.04 BIOS and do not see any memory related options. I do not see any documentation from Razer that explains how to set the memory speed.
XMP is listed as supported on Razer's website (https://support.razer.com/gaming-laptops/razer-blade-pro-17-early-2019/) but I do not see anywhere in the manuals or in any other place I have been able to google, an explanation of how to use this feature through officially supported means. I may be stupid and overlooking something obvious.
There are forum posts about how to "unlock hidden" options, involving downloading the BIOS, getting a hex editor, etc., hacking and re-flashing the BIOS, but I am not really comfortable doing that, I doubt I would get it to work properly and I would probably wind up bricking the laptop. I really would prefer a proper out of box manufacturer-supported solution. XMP is listed as a feature of the product on the manufacturer's site so it shouldn't really be a matter of having to hack to unlock the hidden option. :)
Anyway it is what it is - any insights? I guess I could try to return the RAM but where I live returning electronic things isnt really a thing unless they are flat out dead on arrival, and I think the RAM is good. Again I may be overlooking something obvious, sorry if that is the case. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Thanks
