razer nari randomly disconnects and has bad range.

I have had issues with my new razer nari, it randomly disconnects for a second whilst I'm sitting right by my computer and the range is pretty poor. I would like to know if my issue has something to do with outdated USB ports because I refurbished an old office PC, but I kept the old motherboard which means the USB ports are old. I could get a USB 3.0 PCIe card but I don't want to waste money if my USB version isn't the issue. should I send it back and get a new one or will the USB 3.0 fix my issue?
