GPU Max Fan Speed While Laptop is Off- EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080

As far as I know, the eGPU only depends on the computer it is connected to. Once that connection is severed when the laptop is powered down, the eGPU should go into a hibernation state of sorts. It is highly likely that your new card incorrectly detects this as a mining type of situation. Do you get the same results when the Thunderbolt cable is unplugged?

Unplugging it or powering off the GPU stops the fans from running full speed. I’m wondering if there’s someway to prevent communication over TB3 when the computer is shut down / hibernating (basically treating it like it’s unplugged). Currently I think it’s still communicating over the TB3 even when shut down. With the FE 3070, the fans didn’t do this (as in I didn’t have to unplug the eGPU).

Hi, Exact same issue here. Upgraded from a Razer Core 2 to Core X Chroma. Same GPU (1080Ti) and laptop (Razer 15 Advanced 2018) When my laptop would go to sleep or be shut down fully the Core 2 would go into a full sleep state. But the Core X Chrome (which has an additional power rocker switch) goes into a 100% fan mode on the GPU. So if my laptop sleeps for power saving after 30 minutes for example, then all of a sudden the eGPU goes into an overdrive situation which is a nightmare. (Defeats the point of the laptop going into sleep mode, right?) Nothing else in my platform changed. It drives me crazy having to manually switch off and on the eGPU every time I want to either shut down my laptop or before I boot it up in the morning. And sleep is no longer an option now. I have looked for other threads where people have had this issue, very little - and certainly no fixes. I will try anything because now after 3 (otherwise blissful!) years with my Razer set-up this is the only thing that really, really irks me. Please, Razer Support - help me out here! Interesting. I don't see any firmware-related solutions from my end. Have you guys tried reinstalling the TB3 drivers? I'd appreciate it if you can send me screenshots of your MSINFO32 and TB3 driver version.

Hi there, thanks for your help. I noticed I was on BIOS revision 1.03 for my model of Razer laptop, which I have now just updated to version 1.08. This doesn't appear to have made any difference however. I've also checked the version of the Thunderbolt drivers, which seem to be the latest available. I attach screenshots though so that you can verify. Thanks very much. James

@sharpRUBYDeer887 Everything appears to be in order. I'm starting to think that we should look into the eGPU's behavior instead. Do send me the serial number of the enclosure so I can forward this to our engineers. *Thread locked to curb the conversation to PMs.
