Razer Thresher 7.1 for PS4 - MIC creating constant loud noise

Switched on my headset today and got a very load constant noise from in my ears - sounds like a motor boat chugging along. When I mute the mic it goes. After server power reset the noise is not fed to my ear pieces (when muted and not muted) but when I unmute other gamers can hear the noise. I've followed the firmware update - it was up to date as only a few months old. Any ideas on a reset / fix? I've put the head phone on my laptop and get the same as when on PS4 so it is a headset issue.
