Razer Cortex keeps crashing/freezing my PC

Hi
I'm opening this forum to ask for help regarding crashes with Razer Cortex.

First of all, I want to mention that I was a longtime user of this program, and I used it daily to gain a few extra FPS on my old build without ever experiencing any issues.
At this point, my hardware no longer needs the small boost that Razer Cortex offers, but I recently heard on social media that Razer is integrating (currently in beta) a Remote Play feature, which I’m really enjoying.

Because of this, I have returned to using the program daily, but the only issue I’m encountering is that Cortex seems to be causing my system to crash.
Specifically, the problem I’m facing consists of a freeze in the game or program that I have open, followed shortly after by a complete system freeze.

I started looking for ways to fix the issue, and the only useful and relevant solutions I found were:

  • Disabling auto boost
  • Disabling the in-game overlay

So, I did that, and I also proceeded to disable all the program features I don’t need. However, despite all this, the freezes are still occurring.

I’m asking for help from the community/developers to resolve this issue.

(For reference, in case it is relevant, I always keep the "Automatic Streaming" feature of the Remote Play beta enabled.)

Did this topic help you find an answer to your question?

Hi @Teotette ,

Thank you for reaching out and bringing this issue to our attention. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing crashes and freezes with Razer Cortex.

Based on your description, it seems like you've already tried some common troubleshooting steps, such as disabling auto boost and the in-game overlay. While these steps haven't resolved the issue, have you used SPEED UP under SYSTEM BOOSTER? If you’ve done that, please also try to “RESTORE TO WINDOWS DEFAULT” by clicking on the button.

Our engineering team would also like to check the logs on your system. I've sent you a private message with instructions on how to collect and send the logs. Please check your messages for further details.

Thank you so much for your patience and cooperation.

Best regards,
Razer Cortex Team

I have been experiencing the same exact thing. I was previously running a 1650 super with an older cpu and finally got around to building a new pc a couple days ago. After getting everything installed and running smoothly, I proceeded to get into my games. Namely Battlefield 2042, The First Descendant, and World of Warcraft. Each time I started playing, it would run fine for a few minutes then it would freeze. Sometimes the game wouldn’t freeze at all but after I closed out of the game, my system slowly came to a halt until everything was locked up and the only thing I could do is a hard reset.

I originally thought I must have installed something wrong so I shut everything down, took the pc apart and put it all back together making sure I seated everything properly and everything. I then doublechecked my bios, drivers, anything I could think of. Still had the same issue. So I uninstalled each and every one of my games and reinstalled them. Same issue. It wasn’t until just a few minutes ago that I realized Cortex was boosting, but wouldn’t restore when games were shut down. And it would stay in this boost setting even after restarting the pc. So, I uninstalled everything Razer, deleted all related files that I could find, and restarted the pc. Once everything loaded up, I checked my games. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. Thinking maybe it was a bad install on Razer Cortex so I reinstalled it and tested my games. Right back to the same issues. So now I’ve uninstalled Razer Cortex and will be testing to see if I have the same issue again or not. Stand by….

Yep. Tested games after uninstalling Cortex and there’s no freezing issues.
