Wired Razer Basilisk Mouse Not Detected by Synapse/PC

My Razer Basilisk Ultimate mouse is having issues with being detected by Synapse/my PC when I connect the USB cable directly to the mouse. I found this out today because my mouse was low on battery and I wanted to charge it while still being able to use it by plugging the USB cable directly into it. My mouse was working just fine yesterday with a wired connection and this only started happening today. Now, if my mouse battery dies/runs low, then I have to stop using it and charge it wirelessly on the dock/via wired connection.

The mouse works just fine when the USB cable is connected to the dock while the USB dongle is inserted into it. It shows in my Bluetooth & Devices in Windows settings, in my Device Manager, AND in Synapse. But as soon as I unplug the USB cable and plug it directly into the mouse, then it says the mouse has a "Driver Error" in the Bluetooth & Devices in Windows settings. Device Manager doesn't list it under "Mice and other pointing devices" and 2 of the 3 "Razer Basilisk Ultimate" devices under "Human Interface Devices" say the driver failed to initialize. Synapse also does not show the mouse under "DEVICES."

I can still hear my PC making audible noises when I unplug the cable from the dock (device disconnected cue) and when I plug the cable directly into the mouse (device connected cue). Mouse is still getting power from the cable too as I can see the battery level increase after plugging the cable back into the dock and the mouse lights up while it's switched off.

Things I’ve tried and checked already:

  • Updated the drivers for USB dongle/dock
  • Tried using the Razer Mouse Pairing Tool
  • Tried using the Device Detection Troubleshooting Tool
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Synapse 3
  • Uninstalled the “Razer Basilisk Ultimate” device in Device Manager and reinstalled it

I really think it’s a driver issue at this point after checking and trying all of these things, as I am unable to update the driver on the mouse itself. When I connect the mouse to my PC with the USB cable as instructed, Synapse/my PC doesn't recognize it so the green "UPDATE" button is just greyed out.

Any thoughts or troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated as this has become very frustrating all of a sudden and I really like my mouse.

Hey SpringRolls, I have the exact same issue with my Basilisk Ultimate since this morning. It is also only when i try to connect the USB cable directly to the mouse that it doesn’t get recognized, when i try using the dock it works just fine.

I have also tried solving the issue by the steps you provided and still run into the same problem. I’m trying to figure it out as well but sadly i don’t have a solution as of yet. I’ll be watching this post for further troubleshooting ideas.

Same here.

I have Razer Basilisk Ultimate.

From this morning the mouse stopped working in wired mode. Wireless working fine.

This issue has hit me too. I also tried to downgrade synapse and do a manual firmware for the mouse itself, but the update was greyed out, like OPs description.

Would be nice to get some info.

I’ve decided I’ll just go wireless for now since that is working. But I did see this article that I may try later.

https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/353/~/my-razer-device-does-not-work-at-startup

Also what other details can you all share for assisting others? OS, CPU, USB2/3, etc. Not sure if there are any other details helpful but knowing if it is a specific CPU/OS can help narrow down the field.

I’m on Windows 10 with X570 motherboard, AMD 5950X, and using one of my 3.0 ports for the mouse.

Just updated my AMD chipset drivers after the issue started as well but no resolution for wired. The only Windows update I recall recently was a .NET update but I used the mouse just fine afterwards. Wasn’t until today the issue came up.

Same here with Razer Basilisk Ultimate. Stopped working on wired today (same driver initialization errors in Device Manager), wireless is fine. I’ve deleted Razer Synapse 3, cleaned all Razer directories in Program Files and Program Data, deleted all mouse drivers in Device Manager, restarted the PC. After that mouse worked fine on wired connection. After I reinstalled Razer Synapse 3, at first mouse was still working on wired. But the second Razer Synapse 3 started updating Basilisk’s drivers - it stopped working again. TL;DR: probably some faulty Razer Synapse 3 update. Uninstalled it for now, wired connection works fine.

So I noticed that Device Manager has 3 items listed as Basilisk Ultimate when I go wired and 2 fail to initialize the call as their error. I uninstalled and removed the 2 failed drivers after I had closed Razer Synapse. That seems to have made wire mode start working again as well but may be temporary.

One other thing I noticed though is I had never upgraded my firmware. I was still on 1.02.00 and 1.08.00 was released in 2023. Unfortunately you have to get wired working again for the mouse itself to update. Both the dock and mouse have a 1.08.00 update.

I’m having the same issue, replicated the steps the poster mentioned.

Mine works wirelessly, but when the cable is plugged in with Synapse installed 3 and 4… It stops working.

When uninstalled the mouse works fine on cable… I suppose it’s due to an update razer have released?

I have the same issue, I went to sleep and when I woke up this morning, mouse stopped working when plugged in. Mine is always plugged in because the battery is not lasting long enough. They need to fix it asap. Works in wireless when using dock or the usb dongle.

Used work laptop (no synapse) today, but as soon as i switched to my gaming pc it failed to detect the cabled Basilisk. Thought the mouse went faulty somehow, but nice to see I’m not the only one.

Dude I thought I was the only one having this problem, I’ve been trying to fix it for like 5h now. Hopefully someone will fix this quickly cuz it was really random, yesterday was working fine today while trying wasn’t working.

Hello! Mine stopped randomly this morning too, it was odd. So I tried a mixed variety of solutions, I’m not sure which one worked but something tells me it’s a combination of things.

  • Uninstalling the two error drivers for the mouse that pop up in device manager, for those who do not know how to go through the device manager without the mouse. Click on one of the drivers in device manager before plugging in your mouse, then use the arrow keys, and hit delete on the two. Nothing worked.
  • I then uninstalled Razer Synapse, and all of it’s files in Program Files, and AppData.  I even deleted all of the files I could delete in the Razer folder in the Program Files even ones that weren’t Synapse.
  • I then tried uninstalling every Razer program, this is when something worked. I didn’t uninstall Cortex or Axon but I did still have Chroma. So I uninstalled Razer Chroma then suddenly when I plugged the mouse in after doing that it worked.

I hope this helps.

For me as well… Mouse worked yesterday like normal, and today it suddenly only works when connected via dongle. I tried using it on another pc and there it works fine when connected via cable, but on my main pc, i get the error code 37 when looking into it in the device manager. tried deleting its drivers and restarting the pc multiple times, but to no avail.
Hope it gets fixed too, since i cant even use the driver updater, since it doesnt recognize the mouse when connected via usb-cable...

It worked for me! Thank you so much I’ve been fighting with this for the last 2 hours and I can finally relax. Have a great day!

Uninstall the Synapse is the only way for now.

Appears to be tied to Riot Vanguard. Unistall the program, then reconnect the mouse and it should begin working again. May need a restart if not.

It Works!  How did you understand what’s going on ? How did you got it ?

Kush_Enthusiast

Looks like vanguard is the problem. Just close Vanguard or uninstall it.

It is 100% vanguard.  Once I uninstalled it I was able to update the firmware and now it works fine.

Hey, everyone! Thank you all for your input and advice on this issue. I didn’t think this thread would get so many replies and it’s my first one too 😅 It’s reallyyy nice to know that I was not the only one running into this exact same issue with the Razer Basilisk Ultimate mouse! I was just about to try closing out Synapse, connect my mouse to PC via USB wire, and then uninstall the two error drivers in Device Manager first for troubleshooting, but when I wired my mouse to my PC, it just started working like normal again lol… I guess it fixed itself/Razer fixed this issue somehow, at least for me. I updated the driver on my mouse from 1.06 to 1.08 successfully afterwards. Unfortunately, since this just resolved itself on its own, then I can’t really pick a “Best answer” or provide the specific troubleshooting that worked for me. Please feel free to continue using this thread for troubleshooting and discussion though! Community 🤜🤛😁
