Blade Pro 17 w/ eGPU?

Hello everyone! I own a Razer Blade Pro 17 from last year. I'm trying to figure out if its pointless to get an eGPU for this laptop. I don't want to build a PC because I don't have a need for it. However, I do some video and photo editing along with gaming.

I really can't find any information in regards to others who have asked this question. I only find lower end laptops with the addition of an eGPU, so that information isn't very useful.

Thanks for any help!

It’ll cost you a lot since gaming laptops (despite current stealth maybe) isn’t made for the setting and even when you try it, assuming you’ve lowest rtx2060, you’ve to get an 2080ti to get advantage from the setting, even though there’re some titles that play not well on this setting due TB3 limitation.
However there’s also some advantage using egpu setting with gaming laptops, because of dgpu inside laptop would be off there will be huge thermal room left inside that make significant cpu thermal improvement. I can confirm it since I’ve the setting with Blade 15, rtx2080 corev2. Other advantage that I get is that I can play some titles better on higher resolution especially 4K, but again it’s not all the titles. The reason why I have egpu setting is because I’ve (had) ultrabook to pair with, MBP13 (RIP) and Blade stealth.
Hope this will give you some vision, of course you can ask me any other thing but I don’t do video editing mostly gaming.

Thank you for getting back to me. I know it was going to be an expensive investment if I get the eGPU, because I would in theory have to get a higher quality (rtx 2080 ti) to make it worth it, am I wrong? There just isn't a need for me to build a PC. I'd like to stay as minimalistic as possible, but with room to grow, so the eGPU seems to make the most sense. I'm huge on keeping temperatures down and thermal throttling. However, I don't really get too much thermal throttling while gaming since I keep my setting moderate to high. On ultra settings I notice it now and again.

Yes, especially Blade Pro 2019 with rtx2070 and 2080 maxq that use high 100 watt+ tdp that make it the best in its class (not quite sure about 2060 one), so in order to get performance improvement over your dgpu (on some titles, or maybe your work load) you’ve to get 2080ti.
I know some Blade 15 users who use egpu in order to get better cpu thermal, it translates to longer lifespan since heat might wear the parts inside faster. If your thermal is fine and have a 2070/2080 version I wouldn’t get egpu setting. My Blade 15 is 2018 1070maxq one, even with 2080 @1080p 1070maxq mostly outperforms 2080egpu setting (1070maxq Blade use also high gpu tdp 90 watt unlike some other brands 80 watt), I only see huge improvement on 4K resolution or triple monitor gaming which’s good (less TB3 bandwidth penalty) on this setting.

I'm not on a 4k display. My gaming is done on my 34" ultrawide. I do plan on upgrading to Samsungs Odyssey G9 (when ever its available). I am also looking for longevity out of my Blade Pro. I do have the 2080 maxq. I'm not looking to purchase a new laptop within the next 2-4 years, so I need this to last as long as possible before it starts to breakdown. So I figured the eGPU could help with that, along with the ability to upgrade just the graphics card if needed. Maybe I'll wait until NVIDIA releases a newer graphics card and then purchase the eGPU. Because if I but it now, I'll end up spending the money on a 2080, and shortly thereafter, the 3080 will come out. Hahaha
