Help! Upgrade from 2020 17 Blade Pro?

Razer fam,

I am having trouble making a decision so I thought I'd come to the source for some advice.

Last year I bought the 2020 RBP17 refresh 4k w/ 120hz sporting the 2080 SUPER.

Seeing now that the 30 series is out, expecting a major boost in performance, I have been considering selling my RBP and preordering the 4K 120hz model for this year.

The main thing that I'm wondering is.... just how much more performance will it have? Obviously the reviews are about to start flowing in for the 3080 mobile card, but the preliminary benchmarks seemed to suggest that the performance could be a less than 20% gain. As far as I can tell, with the exception of 16 to 32GB RAM, it doesn't seem like much--if anything--changed in the machine. The display seems to be the same, the processor is the same and the chassis seems to be the same.

Anyone have any input? Would it be worth it to upgrade my Blade, or would the performance gain be so minimal that it wouldn't be worth it?

No I don’t think it’s worth upgrading, 2080 super on pro 17 still a power horse, I’d skip 3000 mobile maybe if there’s super version or 11 intel cpu refresh I’d consider that. Well for pascal users like blade 15 or 14 with 1060/1070maxq, any 3000 series out there that they can get is really good upgrade.
Thanks a lot man for your input.

Time spy : 10 925 Score
Time Spy Extreme : 5124 score
Port Royal : 6709
The wattage is limited to 100 max. No dynamic boost 2.0, no whisper mode 2.0 and no advanced optimus.
Cyberpunk : 4k full r tracing on, is about 30-35 fps dlss auto. 20-25 with dlss quality.
Temperature are very good, and fans runs pretty quiet for this lvl of composents.
I've recive mine yesterday, it's all i get.

Is it blade pro 2021 4K 120Hz Rtx 3080, from score it smells like that:big_grin_:
You can make your own thread and post the benchmark scores screenshot, since you mentioned gpu wattage I believe you’re familiar with HWinfo64, it’ll be nice also post the screenshot. When I’m not wrong driver update for ampere mobile maximizing new features like you mentioned would be on February update, though for dynamic boost, it’s kind working according some tech YouTubers if your cpu runs on lower wattage the gpu apparently boost some wattage, though it depends also oem bios setting enabling this features apparently.
Cyberpunk since 3080 mobile is equal with 3070 desktop it’ll hardly run on 4K ray tracing it’s sweet spot for 1440p, so I’d downscaling to 1440p and enjoy the higher FPS, I think on 17 inch 1440p is already great.

yes, we talk about the new blade pro 4k. I can make a thread of it, but my english is poor... it could be take some times..
All news features comes on february then? 'cause many laptop already have.
1440P is enough but we have a gorgeous screen, it's a litlle bit frustrating to stick around 30 fps in 4k..
Hope new update will fix it.

Desktop 3070 with ray tracing on in 4K can’t hits 30 FPS as well unless maybe you lower some setting, try disabling it. Well I play 1440p (down scale) on 27 inch 4K monitor with 3070 desktop gpu for better FPS, I prefer ray tracing on on this game so 1440p is sweat spot for 40 to 50ish FPS, I’ll try later 4K ray tracing off and see the image quality difference, but quite sure the developer optimized this title for ray tracing that make non ray tracing looks bad if you experienced ray tracing first.
