[TotW] What Do You Mean, "No Internet?" | Razer Insider

And you thought the lines at Costco were long

First of all, shout out to all the people out there on the front lines dealing with this pandemic. Whether you're a medical professional or the grocery store cashier, I appreciate each and every one of you out there. Please be safe and if anyone here is or knows someone who is out there every day, please send them my love and respect. Yep, random dude on Razer Insider says he loves and respects you. I stand by it.

This morning two of our team members had difficulty logging in because of internet troubles. Bandwidth is being eaten everywhere because many people are working from home and flooding all the data tubes. Netflix and YouTube are defaulting to standard quality. Steam is limiting auto-updating of games to the three most recent played. It seems that companies everywhere are doing their part to lessen the load of data being squeezed. It's so easy to think of data as being this magical thing that seems limitless with wifi and the cloud, yet we see caps all the time, whether it's monthly mobile data or even your ISP connection.

What if it got so bad we had to ration data? In 1979 during the oil crisis the United States rationed gas. What would you do if you had to ration data? Imagine only being able to use data - mobile, wifi, any form of internet, on the weekends only, or Monday-Wednesday-Friday only?

What would you do on a non-data day?

This is the Thread of the Week. Good engagement may get you some Razer Silver.

This would be a great opportunity for me to get back to playing single player games. It's been a couple of years since i last played a game for the story and not for competition, team work and socializing.
@dodo_0 that last part about the old network is awesome!
One thing I just remembered, we could also hop onto the decentralized internet! So not all is at loss! If there is a huge collapse we could theoretically put up our own web and make it like a giant wan. haha!
Without internet, we would never see the new Razer April Fools joke!

Wait, where is it?
Definitly in for some LAN-Gaming with friends. Also it is nice thinking about ravens delivering our messages. Who even needs internet, LUL?
Without internet half the world would be out of jobs anyway.
i think i will learn new skill to flex on my friends after this quarantine. lol!!
Without the internet during the week I'd' probably be wood turning / woodworking, wrenching on and riding my motorcycle. Playing games offline of course as well! I think I would see myself enjoying books and doing more photography like I used to, skateboarding. Tending to the garden. I already do a lot of that but sometimes I procrastinate because I get busy online haha! So it could actually be a good thing. It could bring balance to our lives!
Tja, was man macht man dann? Das übliche, Zeit mit der Familie verbringen, arbeiten und Sport. Ändert sich hier bei uns nicht viel.

Oh, that's easy to explain. We here in Germany have a government that thinks "Internet is new territory". Surely you can imagine that the networks here are not so well developed, the schools have the status of 1972 and otherwise our connections are also throttled at certain amounts (DSL connection). Therefore it is not so noticeable here. In many regions the Internet is not even widespread. In addition, the lines are old copper lines, so the Internet breaks in here anyway often for 1-2 days. You see, with us everything stays the same.
Well, what do you do? The usual, spend time with the family, work and sports. Doesn't change much around here.
If I had a ration data, I will play Pokemon in Nintendo platform during the lockdown period and no data days. I remember when I was a kid, data and internet still doesn't exist, I used to play Pokemon on Gameboy and I am happy playing with it.

Everyone commenting on what they would do, y'all will be dead in 1 week after the internet goes down.

I don't think it will come to an ending like this. Honestly, the first days would be pain for most of us but after some time we have people getting over it and bothering with different things. Why "dead" in the first place?
"Going ole Cal-I-Four_Neigh_wai"

Salute to frontliners!!!

Time to complete all the success missing for the offline parts of the games
