What's the difference between clicky(purple) and linear optical switch(red)?

I saw the purple and red switches as I was browsing through details on the Razer Huntsman. I'm not really a tech-guy so I don't understand the difference. Which is better?

Different acutation 1.5mm Purple vs 1mm (Red), less force to press on Reds. When pressing purple there will be some kind of "bump" when the key is clicking (activating), on Red no bump, just straight movement to the bottom. Which is better? It's hard to tell because it's personal preference. I like clicky keys for gaming, but for typing, work I'd choose reds.
