(2022) Blade 14 - usb-c output t dGPU?


Hey - Is there any way to get the usb-c port to use the dGPU instead of the iGPU?

Like, is the only way to output the dGPU to an external monitor to use a hdmi cable?

I dont quite get what you want to do. Razer core require thunderbolt connection is you want to connect external gpu. USB-c is use tobtransfer data and audio/Video so if you want connect external monitor trugh this port it should work.

I think he meant using nvidia gpu (dgpu) instead integrated amd (igpu) one.

I don’t have 2022 model, but probably since it has mux switch unlike 2021 some port would output through igpu (2021 model all output to external monitor directly through nvidia which also brings downside when using battery power like on presentation it will consume unnecessary power from nvidia gpu). Maybe try another usb c port if it’s directly to nvidia, if not probably only hdmi.

2022 dont have mux only regular optimus. One or two variations of config Maryny have optimus advenced and g-syc.

Advanced Optimus is basically next gen of mux switch (without needing to restart the device), same technology that using integrated screen without interfaces cpu, directly from gpu and gain better performance than Optimus technology (cpu control the internal screen, gpu data run through that resulting more bandwidth).

I'm sorry but you're wrong mux is not regular optimus. I hope this will help you what is diffrence bettwen ech one of them:
What is Optimus?
Most gaming laptops have two GPUs, The integrated graphics(iGPU) which is part of the processor, So Intel or AMD can be anyone, and the discrete graphics (dGPU), Example : Nvidia RTX 3060 , AMD 6800M etc.
The dGPU is more powerful, So it burns more power. Laptops are devices where battery life is very important. So Instead of using the heavy powerful graphics all the time, Laptops are designed to use lower power integrated graphics (iGPU) instead. The Dedicated GPU (dGPU) is still there and ready to be called when needed.
So When you open a game or some other GPU intensive workload, the system is smart enough to run the workload on the more powerful dGPU. This is how Optimus works, also known as MSHybrid.
But Optimus is having a Bottleneck. When running a game, the frames required by the games are generated on the dGPU, but they’re first send through the iGPU to the screen. This means that in many scenarios the iGPU acts as a literal bottleneck, and iGPU is not that powerful to handle dGPU frames at the same speed. and this is why it bottlenecks the game performance. and this is why being able to disable Optimus results in a performance improvement in games.
So basically on average Optimus off gave a 17% FPS boost in some titles. This is at maximum setting levels too, lower settings levels generally see an even higher boost.

What is a MUX switch?
A MUX Switch or a multiplexer is a switch which manually enable or disable the integrated graphics. It does this by physically changing the connection between the GPU and the screen. Being able to disable Optimus therefore requires that the laptop has physical hardware support for this feature, this is not something you can upgrade yourself. You cannot simply disable the integrated graphics through device manager in Windows, this does not change how the GPU and screen are physically wired.
We have to restart after enabling or disabling Optimus through Windows software to apply the change. This is a bit of an inconvenience if you’re changing frequently, but if you’re always gaming on wall power anyway then it makes sense to leave Optimus disabled.
With Optimus disabled, the integrated graphics are no longer available. We can't see them in task manager anymore, instead only the discrete graphics are available. This is like a regular desktop PC now, where the screen is connected straight to the high powered GPU. Gaming performance should now be improved, but if you need to run on battery power the run time will be less.

What is NVIDIA Advanced Optimus ?
So Nvidia Advanced Optimus is similar to this but when you switch the optimus for dGPU connection you need not have to restart in case of Advanced optimus.

You can belive what ever you want but the truth is one mux and optimus are simmullar but this not the same. No offence dont misslead people.

What are you talking about I’m talking about mux switch which’s laptop technology to gain better performance by swapping active gpu that’s using by laptop display, Optimus is using intel gpu for better battery life, both tech are being used on gaming laptops before advanced Optimus came, advanced Optimus as the predecessor doesn’t need to restart the system to switch the gpu since the Modul is set to the display directly so it’s depends display model, that’s all the difference and both especially on thin and light gaming category still use Optimus since the battery life is important on this category.
So I’ll stop this mux debate and back to the titles.

Dont quite understood why you write what is switch about becose on my lest message you have detailed comperison. Third on blade 14 you have direct connection to nvidia gpu via the usb-c port if you have any doubt watch reviews of this model or contact support they will say you the same thing. First of all great you dig out thread and respond two weeks later. Second my friend most middle and every high end nootebooks have direct connection to dgpu this is not new or something that is made recent. Third I will write you again optimus is not mux there are simmullar but not the same. The most close technology to mux is Optimus advenced plus. I wish you luck to find laptop with this version becose it's rare for now. Last thing pointless it's speak with you about the same for couple of messages becose you can understand simple fact.
