Cortex optimiser has deleted personal files and folders

I have lost numerous files and folders due to to this inept piece of programming. How does removing work files, gifs, pictures and videos from my downloads folder optimise a game? How do I get them back? Will Razer be paying for the recovery of these files as I will either need specialist software, or an external party to recover them? Of course they wont!

I had a similar problem years ago with cortex where uninstalling deleted all the screenshots saved to the cortex folder, but thought I'd give it a go again and now wish I hadn't.

Any assistance in recovering my files would be appreciated

Try checking the Recycle Bin first.
If it doesn't work, try a program named Recuva by Piriform. Using it is simple, it'll walk you through a wizard. There's also a portable version of it in the "Other Builds" just in case you don't want to install it. Of course I can't guarantee that all of your files will be recovered.
Thank you - will give the program a try. Nothing was in the recycle bin following running the optimiser, it looked to have permanently deleted items. Not the first report of this program doing this, deleting files it should not, seems to have been a bug since at least 2017. Deleting gifs, pdfs etc do not "optimise" a system, the program should have never touched those types of files.
