Can you please explain the exact scenario, because what you mentioned is not clear. Till here, "Hi my child has received a message from a friend. "Hi I can use your phone number for a competition. My phone does not work. " its fine. What about the rest of the scene ?

Does not make any sense. Its only a phone number he did not get the sim card. Soo even if he has the phone number he cant do nothing

it sounds like the friend of your child just used your childs phone number to verify an account. You could always discuss it with them and ask what for they exactly used it. But for example I've used my family members phones to secure 2FA in situations where my phone has been broken or not available. Bottom line: sounds safe in my opinion. But you should really just ask the kids about what they exactly did, just to make sure that there hasn't been any authorization for some purchases etc.
