Razer Core X Chroma, thunderbolt connection issues on Windows 11

Hi Everyone

Were having issues with a Razer Core X Chroma unit we have for testing, we can get it working fine on Windows 10 but our Windows 11 test machine cant pick up the graphics card at all. Were getting a "USB or Thunderbolt device functionality might be limited" error. Just to say the device we are testing is a Dell Latitude 5510 and we have an Asus Phoenix GeForce RTX3050 installed in the enclosure.

So far we have tried:

  • Running the Nvidia driver installer (wouldn't run/could not detect the graphics card)
  • Checking device manager (graphics card, RJ45 adapter etc did not show up)
  • Forcing Windows updates (no change)
  • Running "Dell Command Update" and checking for BIOS/driver updates (no change)
  • Running Intel's "Driver and Support Assistant" software and checking for updates (no change)
  • Forcing installation of the old Thunderbolt manager app (doesn't do anything)
  • Changing the USB-C cable to the one that came with the Core X (even though the other one worked on our Win 10 device)

Does the support team have any other ideas? It may be a problem with the Dell-certified versions of the relevant Windows 11 drivers. Also yes we are aware that the RTX 3050 is "technically" not supported for eGPU usage by Nvidia but it works fine at a decent framerate on Win 10.

So just to add an update to this, we have tried running the same setup (Core X Chroma, RTX3050) on a Dell XPS17 running Windows 11 and that worked fine (a slightly wobbly USB-C socket aside). So this appears to be a driver-specific issue with the Latitude 5510 or the latitude 5000 series in general.

We'll be talking to our Dell contact regarding this but I'm expecting this to get bumped back to Razer
