I can’t think of any reason other than stupidity that on-board memory doesn’t save Chroma settings as well as synapse. There are threads going back years on this same issue. Why do I need on board memory for synapse, when I HAVE to open synapse for the chroma effects to take place? When your room is dark, and you can hardly see your desk I bet the last thing you want to do is have to turn on a light to see your RGB keyboard… well have fear and maintain caution because Razor will keep you guessing as to why an RGB keyboard with onboard memory needs software (or to be accurate malware) to keep the lights, yes the lights… on. If I could nominate one reason no one should purchase their keyboards, it would be that the only thing they do on their own is type.
Is this all an opinion? Yes. Do I intend to purchase Razor products in the future? No, the price in no way justifies itself, not with their product and especially not with their software. The fact that one relies on the other should be a red flag for anyone looking for a feature packed keyboard that makes the same claims Razor likes to make. I have been a fan up until the purchase of my last razor product. Having only ever used their mice and headsets I went into my Huntsman V3 experience very optimistic, and to this day well over a year and a half later I can say these things confidently: My keyboard types, Synapse is malware that only serves to add background processes that COULD ALL HAPPEN ON DEVICE if they so chose to let it, and switches are nice to type on. I can also say with certainty that anyone who doesn’t fall for Razor’s scheme can find what they’re looking for at a much lower entry point, and they won’t be sacrificing that much on quality. If you think controlling each individual light is a cool feature, just remember that it’s unheard of in my experience to hit your PC’s power switch/button and see RGB lights on your razor keyboard, until after you boot up, sign-in, launch Synapse, let it recognize your device, and then wait for it to load your chroma settings. Also know that instead of combining Synapse and Chroma into 1 application, Razor likes to eat up as much of your will as possible. So to control your lights in depth you NEED Chroma, and to load profiles onto your keyboard’s supposed memory you NEED synapse. To make and save changes (if you notice yourself doing this as you set things up to your liking) you will more than likely have both applications open simultaneously for ease. Nothing about this is cool. My feeling after the year and some time with my keyboard, is disappointment. Save yourself the money, get something that has all the RGB, the features you need, and doesn’t make you download more than a single application for full functionality.
If anyone knows a work around to getting the Chroma profile saved to the On-Board memory loaded, while keeping all Razor related applications unopened I am all ears. If anything I try is successful I’ll post wherever Razor won’t take it down.
