Basilisk V3 disconnects when mouse is lifted | Razer Insider

Hi!  We purchased a Basilisk v3 mouse from GameStop the other day.  When using it, the mouse disconnects from Windows each time the mouse is lifted from the mat.  It reconnects when the mouse is placed back down.  This was tested on two different computers (one Win10, the other Win11) with the same result.  We tried multiple USB ports and the issue continued.  Has anyone else encountered this, and what do you recommend?  Thanks!

I´m having the exact same issue. Can´t find any useful advice anywhere online. The cable is fine, its definitely software related somehow because if the mouse is lifted and the sensor is covered with something without moving the mouse, it reconnects. Have tried reinstalling mouse and usb drivers, updated the BIOS, even reset windows. Another mouse works just fine in the same port. When Synapse is opened, the mouse disconnects alltogether.
Maybe unrelated but the smart scroll stopped working properly as well. The scroll wheel got too “soft”. It´s also not filled with debris because once soft scroll is turned off, the wheel works fine again.

Very, very interesting. I got my Basilisk V3 replaced, after it started disconnecting and reconnecting at a rate of one second, making it impossible to use, and it didn’t even turn up in Synapse. Since I had to cut the cord for the replacement to arrive, I tried opening the Basilisk V3 and played around with it. As it turns out, if I remove the mouse wheel assembly (it’s connected via a ribbon cable to the mouse motherboard) then the mouse... works, even after reconnecting the mouse wheel assembly, BUT only so far as I keep it on a surface, otherwise it disconnects from the PC, EXACTLY like you described. If I put it back, or put my finger near its lens, it works yet again. Back when the mouse operated properly (it did so for a year and a half), it never had this requirement to be on a surface to be connected to the PC. I suspect maybe it has something to do with the mouse assembly.

UPDATE: I put a very thin scotch tape bit on the mouse wheel assembly ribbon cable, blocking out the first three contacts which seem to go to the motor. The mouse now doesn’t disconnect anymore intermittently, it actually just works when I plug it in, but it does disconnect (or should I say pseudo-disconnect) if I lift up the mouse. Also the left and right scroll wheel tilt buttons don’t do anything, for some reason (which is weird, because the buttons for them are on the mouse mobo, and should have nothing to do with the scroll wheel assembly...

Having this issue as well. Mouse might as well be bricked. Only reasonable progress was made when uninstalling synapse as well as all drivers. When i reinstalled synapse, the mouse broke again and I haven’t got it working since. Put fresh firmware on it, tested it with different computers, everything.

Having the exact same issue, games are unplayable

Im having the same issue and I tried putting electrical tape on a part of the sensor just enough for it to "sense" something but not affect it. It cant flick fast but its a temporary fix if anyones interested

Having the exact same issue, games are unplayable. Well this was a waste of money.

Also having the same problem. I started using different drives and that seemed to work but less than 2 weeks later here we are back at the same problem. Trying to figure out if I pressed a certain button but in general cannot figure out a way to make this stop.

Owner of Basilisk V3 Wired here.

Going to be a Cobra owner soon. My Razer mice dont last any more than 2 years and therefore I am getting the cheaper model one after another. From Naga to Basilisk to Cobra. All wired (except a wireless Orochi which I use with my netbook)

As for the Basilisk V3 Wired.

I am still using it now. But after just over 2 years (i believe it reached 2 years in Q4 2023 iirc):

  • Scroll wheel no longer scrolls up and down (i mapped the left and right tilt to replace up and down for now)

  • Free spin no longer works, always Tactile spin for the scroll wheel (I mapped the wheel spin mode button to Left Click)

  • Left button no longer register a click and hold, ie. I cannot do click and drag nor Charge Attacks (hence the mapping of the wheel spin mode button into Left Click as a replacement)

  • RGB only flashes red

  • Whenever I lift the mouse up, it disconnects until i place it back down and it will try to reconnect, and randomly fails to reconnect sometimes (its not a wire issue as placing my finger over the sensor can make it attempt a reconnect)

  • All the above symptoms happened in recent week or two, but one of the side button starting to double click happened about a year plus of ownership (side buttons are not optical switches)

I am a relatively light gamer, but I do use the mouse every day for games and web surfing.

Main left and right buttons are optical so should not double click (except that my left click is no longer registering button holds). Side buttons are mechanical so will eventually double click (mine started in about a year plus)

I take care of my devices in general, so exterior wise it still looks clean and almost new. Rubber seems to be rather durable. All the buttons, wheel still feel tight and clicky, but the problems above are there.

Mine (wired)  just worked for less than a month now -.-

First it had the disconnecting error if I lifted it up, tried to fix it by using the latest firmware and so on. Only thing that happend is that the smart wheel also stopped working (stucked on tactical mode).
the last days I just tried to fix this software / driver problem, but no solution so far…

the mouse is basically useless for gaming now ...

I have this issue now, after installing and playing the game Space Marines.
Not a cable issue. Cannot find any solution. I suppose contacting Razer has not led to any answers?
I do not have the money to a replace it, and the warranty is of course expired.
All of the sudden, if the mouse sensor is not contacting a surface the mouse disconnects, and the smart scroll wheel no longer switches between modes. I am not certain, but installing Razer Synapse may have triggered the issue, for me. Though it does seem to be a hardware issue with the mouse assembly.
I wish Razer would recognize and give a fix for this issue. Not just expect us to buy another mouse from them. This is my first Razer mouse in many years. Looks like it will be my last. I will contact Razer support about this, but I have no hope they will help.

I have this problem and the mouse is not even 8 months old. Has anyone found a solution?

Basilisk v3 wired owner here, exact same issues after 2 years of use.

- First, the wheel got stuck in the free-spin mode refusing to go tactile. Don’t know exactly what I did, but I managed to make it go tactile, and now it’s stuck in this mode too, which is better than constant free-spin. (Synapse is detecting the mode switch when you push the corresponding button, the wheel is just stuck).
Also, if I do vertical swiping motions with the mouse, it affects the scrolling for some reason (swipe up - scroll up gets triggered and vice versa). So if I pick up and/or place the mouse down, it triggers whatever the action is bound to the scrollwheel (at least it did until it started disconnecting altogether).
- Then the lighting issues started showing up. At first the mouse was going red whenever I lifted the mouse, then it gradually started losing “the ability to show a specific color”, until it could no longer show any other color despite the green and red (basically whenever I pick any color from the spectrum, it shows either red or green), with yellow when transitioning in-between those.
- Shortly after that, whenever I picked up the mouse, the lighting would completely go off until the sensor detected something.
- Now, it got to a point of disconnecting completely when not detecting a surface. This makes it inferior to trash office mice and renders the profile switching button at the bottom useless. Updating mouse firmware didn’t help. Re-calibrating and resetting mat surface doesn’t help.
Sometimes, re-installing Synapse or switching ports fixes it for a couple of minutes and then the issue comes back again. (It’s what I keep trying to do now).

This pisses me off because with all the mice behaving in the same manner, these feel like software issues. I tried to install an older version of synapse, but it can’t install without internet access. And with internet access enabled it automatically downloads the newest Synapse version. Infuriating.
