7.1 Surround sound not available as playback device

For some reason ever since I updated my computer the surround sound stopped working completely, it's no where to be found. I uninstalled and reinstalled twice, restarted my computer, unplugged and still nothing. Normally it'll show up as one of the playback devices but it's not there. Any help please?
