Audio issues with Kraken X headset & 7.1 surround sound (fixed im an idiot)

Hello! Just got a Kraken X headset. plugged it in, was able to listen to some stuff on spotify, then went to figure out the 7.1 surround sound. took me a bit, but i was able to get it downloaded. once it was downloaded, however, and enabled, i could no longer hear any audio from anything. tried playing music on spotify again, no audio came through. tried opening valorant, no audio. i was able to join a call and talk with friends on discord, but nothing else has made any noise ever since i downloaded 7.1 surround sound. disabling the surround sound doesn't fix the issue. Any ideas?
