Barracuda X 7.1 subscription/activation requirement??

I was watching another thread and I witnessed a user tell another that he/she can get a code for 7.1 activation. Why is Razer charging people money to use 7.1 surround sound? That's the impression that I get from the thread in question. The user then locked the thread knowing that there would probably be much more convo regarding a fix.

What's up? I was thinking about upgrading my Kraken but now I'm concerned.
