Basilisk glide pad/surface clearances?

I just received a Basilisk Ultimate for Xmas, never had a Razer mouse before so not sure if this is normal or not. When moving the mouse across the pad (Vespula) it scrapes, rather than glides. Doesn't matter whether I use the smooth or textured side of the pad, there's an audible scratching noise and it feels fairly awful. All the glide surfaces seem to be present and correct. The old mouse I'm retiring, that has a missing glide pad is like silk on silk compared to my new Razer, so I'm having a hard time believing this is standard for a £160 mouse. Anyone else had this trouble/know of a fix, or should I just return it? Cheers, and merry xmas!
