Basilisk v3, "item serial number is unkown"

I just bought a Basilisk v3 from Best Buy in Boston area. When I was trying to register the product online, the website complained that the "item serial number is unkown". Should I return this product to Best Buy?

Is it because the product I bought was a returned one, and the serial number has already been used??
