Camera requires restarting after ever re-boot

Every time I shut down and then re-boot my PC does not recognise the camera. I then have to disconnect and reconnect the VPN. Then, to ensure the settings are correct, I have to open Synapse before I can use the camera with any other application as it always starts out of focus and won't focus without Synapse being opened. This is pretty rubbish for such an expensive camera - or have I missed something that is an easy fix?
