Firefly Surface issues

I have an issue with the surface of my Firefly hard mousemat. I have a portion of it that the surface being slightly rough it's smooth and it causes my mouse pointer to lag a bit as it runs over it. I was wonderngif the surface was replaceable, is there a aftermarket surface I can purchase and put on it? Or do I need to buy a new one? Any help would be appreciated.
