Fps fluctuations in most videogames

So this problem I started noticing about a week or so ago on my Razer Blade 14. When ever I play most videogames off either Steam or Xbox Gamepass Regardless of what is going on in the game my fps fluctuates sitting smoothly at 100+ fps for a few seconds then dropping to a consistant <30 fps for a few seconds and repeating. I cant seem to find any similar situations anywhere else online so I’d like to know if anyone has any insight.  I’ve stared at my gpu and cpu activity while playing the games and nothing spikes or changes in a way that matches the fps drops. It happens regardless of whether I’m using High Settings or low settings in game. Even happening very obviously when in menus where nothing is going on graphically. I can see the in game mouse icons lag as i move them then return back to proper fps back and forth.

The only game this doesn’t happen really obviously is Apex Legends. Though I still get fps drops randomly for no reason in that game too regardless of what is going on.

If anyone has any ideas of what could be going on I’m all ears i’ve been watching and trying things for the past 3 or 4 days to no avail.

Hi,

1 week ago I began to notice that my Razer Blade 14 was and still is experiencing performance fluctuations. I First noticed playing Overwatch 2 on low settings, not a very demanding game. After troubleshooting for a bit I found that the performance issues stemmed from charger connectivity fluctuations that are exacerbated when playing video games (under GPU and CPU load).

As I understand it; the laptop connects perfectly fine to the charger, but appears to disconnect when fully charged. In practice this generates fluctuating frames and performance as the laptop repeatedly cycles (disconnecting and re-connecting to the charger). I suspect this issue may be a result of a recent windows or razer synapse update that was intended to minimize power consumption due to this happening at an almost identical time to your post. It may also be an issue with the charger and battery or the logic board as seen here (insider.razer.com/razer-support-45/razer-blade-14-2021-charger-problem-40411)

Solution wise, playing games while disconnected from power is not an ideal solution as then the laptop is limited in performance. Theoretically I could run the power down and play from a low percentage while charging my laptop to avoid charger disconnection, but this is a tedious solution. I have also tried the battery fix suggested here to no avail (https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/393/~/the-razer-blade-battery-is-either-not-charging-or-not-detected).

I was going to make my own post, but for some reason it when I click create, the website loads for a bit and nothing happens, so I’m tacking this onto yours.

I hope someone comes up with an answer soon!

So after reading that I started running tests on my GPU’s power consumption and one thing im noticing is that when my fps drops my GPU’s power consumption drops to around 40-45W. When performing normally its at 60-65W. If it was my GPU struggling to run would it be correct to say that its power consumption wouldn’t go down but actually go up?

My leading theory right now is that my GPU isn’t recieving the power it needs. Something is limiting its power causing it to lower its performance. So I feel as though the issue is software related around the powering systems and not a problem with the GPU itself.

Anyone figure this out? Recently started seeing frame rate in a pattern where FPS is halving then returning to max every second or so. Seemed to start around here time I enabled battery optimization.
