Hi I’m having the exact same problem this person had on the same laptop model. It also came out of nowhere.
They didn’t get any replies so I’m posting again.
Three days ago, I was using photoshop with normal GPU temperatures, 68-70C at about 4:30 PM. The GPU was active for Photoshop. When I was done I shut the laptop down like normal, and unplugged it, which I usually do to prevent overcharging or surges or anything.
About 2 hours later I used the laptop again to play a game, Tekken 8.
It suddenly could not get past the main menu without the GPU temperature rising to over 90C.
The CPU however was fine, running at about 75C.
The chassis of the laptop is cool, and the fans sound fine. Just like theirs, the airflow is good, but uncharacteristically cool if the GPU was truly at 90C.
I've also reinstalled windows, ran antivirus software, and updated everything, Nvidia drivers, BIOS, Windows. I also repasted the dies with Arctic MX-6 cleaned the laptop. Like theirs, mine was not dusty either.
Nothing's changed the GPU temperature yet, it will shoot up to 90 and keep going until hitting 99 and crashing if it’s in any use, even 5-8% usage. It will quickly cool to 50-44C if idle.
I know the laptop is like 5 years old now but I really need it to work for just a bit longer, it would be great to fix this issue.
