How to fix Razer Blade 18 Hinge Wobble?

I bought a new to me 2023 razer blade 18 w/ a 4090. It didn’t bother me at first, but the display wobbles on the hinge internally. I took the back off the laptop and made sure the hinge screws were tightened all the way, and they were. I then noticed that the wobble is actually somewhere under the plastic cover on the bottom of the display. I am unable to remove this to investigate, it feels like I’m going to break something. I saw this was a common issue, but nobody seems to have a fix online. Is the wobble normal? The screen can wobble maybe about half of an inch back and forth with as little force as somebody breathing on it. I feel like it’s getting worse, and while that could be placebo, somebody on Reddit said the same thing.

Any ideas? I might sell the thing if I can’t figure it out, I’m starting to obsess over it.

Razer doesn’t have any replacement parts available. There is no fix! :(

Hello @UFoh.
I have the same problem with my Blade 18.
Did the problem get worse with you Blade 18?
You did not find a way to get it fixed, right?
Best regards
Christian

Very simple fix, and there is only one way to do it. Buy a new razor blade 18, put the new hinges in the old laptop and put the defective part in the new laptop and return it back to Razer. Customer support can’t order the parts so they recommended I do that Because otherwise they were telling me I would have to ship the laptop in and pay a $120 fee just to receive the laptop. It was a lot easier for me to just disassemble the laptop and replace the hinges and it ended up working like a treat. If you have a 2023 model the 2024 hinges will still fit.

it sure made it a lot easier to sell this junk on eBay!! I highly recommend getting rid of your razor laptop before anything else happens with it. The customer support is nonexistent compared to a company like Dell for example. Razor doesn’t even upload their drivers to their website

there’s play between the metal part and the plastic part connecting the hinge. I gorilla glued mine so the metal part doesn’t move around the plastic insertion and fixed the wobble that way. At least temporarily

Wait a second. They actually recommended that you do this?

Ugh don’t get me started. I went through absolutely every avenue of communication available and the people over the phone and over email were absolutely useless, everyone just told me to send the laptop to Razer(why did I even bother diagnosing the problem?)

I made a reddit post describing the issue, and a razer employee privately messaged me and gave me advice, but still couldn't help me. I then made ANOTHER post and then ANOTHER razer employee privately messaged me and actually looked through the parts catalog(or whatever you call it) and was able to identify the hinge part that I needed... but they were unable to order it. He was explaining that their repair technicians can't even get the part to fix the laptops that are sent in.  (????!!?????) at that point he suggested that I do what I described in the post above.(minus the part about selling it on ebay)

Even ignoring his crazy advice, the way that this last guy was talking to me was extremely unprofessional. For example I would be describing an issue and he would reply to me with "Bruh 🤦‍♂️”… like that was genuinely verbatim what he said to me... and this was the MOST helpful razor support representative!!!

I was under the impression I was talking to a 16-year-old!! Between their usernames being completely unrelated to razer and them asking me questions like what my address is and the serial number of my laptop, I kept second guessing that I was being phished.

I ended up buying a 2024 blade 18 locally that had a screen issue for a really good deal and took the hinges out of that screen and put it in my laptop. I'm actually running the hingeless laptop as a multimedia center/gaming console in my living room, and I still have both "laptops" and I can admit they work great… except for the 45 minute battery life, I guess.

Anyway to conclude: the support I received from these guys has been nonexistent to the point to where I am trolling my old threads on this topic to try to get you guys to sell your stupid razor laptop before you go insane trying to buy what is probably a 45 cent part and you end up with two of these fucking laptops.

I have tried to rewrite the last part of this post about 40 different times and it’s just not letting me post it. I feel like anytime I interact with anything related to razor I have the most frustrating experience. I can’t even talk about my frustrating experience with razer without having another frustrating experience with razer.

that’s why I’ve replied like 10 different times, I’ve been trying to make this post for like 30 minutes but it just wouldn’t post, and of course it wouldn’t even tell me why it wouldn’t post, it just has a red square above all of the text and then completely erases everything I wrote. if I didn’t happen to take like six screenshots of everything I wrote before I posted it I would’ve completely lost all of the stuff I wrote.

I feel like I’m going completely insane
