key binding issue

i have a new RAZER BASILISK ULTIMATE and i cannot bind my key 5 button to a simple "R" keystroke . it shows the r is set to the button but it never actually types r , ive tried in game and it doesnt work , so i tried it in notepad and nothing happens. doesnt matter what i try , key recording, alphanumeric, i tired symbols , mouse functions . it just wont allow me to change the button to anything (or any other button i try) im at a loss, it worked fine with my deathadder.
