Hi everyone,
I have a Razer Blade 15 2020 base model, and the whole time I’ve owned it I’ve had an issue where if my laptop is plugged in and connected to audio amplifiers, electrical interference causes really awful noise to come out of the amplified speakers.
My problem is the same as shown in this video https://youtu.be/jSA2F1AwboU
I have found ways of getting round it using usb power isolators and hum eliminators which do work but ultimately mean that I am having to use a whole series of devices because the headphone socket is unusable when amplifiers are involved. This might not sound like a huge inconvenience but because of my job I am having to do this all the time, and in some cases I am having to fix multiple channels so my setup becomes much more complex than is shown in the video.
I bought this laptop to use as a musician/DJ, and to be honest this issue has really grated on me as this is a premium machine, advertised as being good for my use case. I bought it during lockdown so I didn’t actually test it with powered amplifiers until I’d owned it for a while. If I had realised this problem earlier I would‘ve returned it.
What I want is a solution where I can just plug my laptop into the wall and use the headphone socket with amplifiers without getting this noise, without having to set up and plug in extra things to fix the issue. The video suggests that a two-pin ‘double insulated’ power supply will do this, but as I live in the UK I don’t know where I can get one. I would like to know what Razer’s official advice is for people like me in the UK who need to connect my Blade to professional sound systems.
Thank you!
PS I am sorry to moan - in every other way my Blade has been so great for what I bought it for, but this one issue has been driving me nuts for a long time. It would mean so much to me to get this sorted as it will finally really be perfect for my use case.
Question
Power supply causing really bad noise when laptop is connected to amplifiers
