Razer Barracuda X: Cracking noises and automatic turnoff with dongle | Razer Insider
Skip to main content

Hello,

I always used my Barracuda X Headset with the type-c dongle and never had problems so far.

Out of the blue problems began. Suddenly the headset does not always autiomatically connect after startup, I often have to remove and plugin again the doingle. When there is no audio output I hear a cracking noise and after a few seconds the headset simply shuts off. But not with the voice confirmation, it suddenly turnes off.

I tested it in bluetooth-mode and did not experience such problems there, but it was only a short test.

I tried reinstalling the device, updating the firmware, checking audio-drivers but did not manage to get rid of this problem.

As far as Ive seen there were no automatic updates or anything like this before the problems occured the first time. I upgraded to Windows 11 but this was a few days before.

Is the dongle propably defect? I did not have the chance to test it on another device yet.

Thanks for any help.

same problem with dongle!

I found three different type of issue:

1- randomly when I turn on the headset i can hear a cracking noise and i can’t hear PC audio. I can solve this switching Windows spatial audio on\off. This somethimes it works for all my game session (or wathever I’m doing) somtehtimes not, i.e. after i finish to whach a video the cracking starts again  and i need to switch on\off spatial audio to continue to hear.

2- headset lost connection with dongle and i can hear the voice “pairing” but never pair till i plug off and plug in the dongle

3- headset turns off

more in general issues 2 and 3 are more rare and usually happens after issue 1.

Till now never happen that these issues coming when there is audio on headphone.

I hope that these info helps to solve the problem in the next fw update!

Note: my headset is barracuda x 2022 fw v1.6.0_r1 stock

I never use bluethott mode

I have the cracking / static sound too while using the hyperspeed connection, bluetooth sounds good but it turns off randomly while im on discord. Please let me know if you found a solution. (Also my device is new and this is happening since day 1)

Did anyone find a solution ? im having the same problems .. it has this weird crackling noises and sometimes just randomly shuts off .. i thought its the dongle position so i connected it directly to the motherboard but still same outcome.

yes! try this for me worked great! right now 2 moths withaut problems.

1- Delete completly sorround sound 7.1 app on my pc.

2- I deleted the barracuda drivers in the device manager.

3- I re-installed the barracuda drivers (they are the automatic ones when you connect the dongle).

I don’t have installed sorround 7.1 application

let me know!

my Razer Barracuda X (2022) crashes Aces high 3 when I activate the microphone  & the sound crackles . It does not happen with my older Atrix wired headset. Need help this is unusable/I does the same thing whe I use 2 other PC's

have you tryed with the procedure described in the previous post?

Thank you for replying Bladan83,

I did all the procedures above and it did not work. It even crackles while watching a YouTube  video I’m at wits end this headset is unusable. Do I just return it to Amazon or does Razer take it back.?

For Cracking noises use
USB-A to USB-C Extender (1.5m)

For easy access and systems without a USB-C port

From ChatGPT

Reduce Wireless Interference

Wireless devices can be affected by interference from other 2.4 GHz devices (e.g., Wi-Fi routers, other wireless peripherals).

Reposition the dongle: Use a USB extension cable to move the dongle away from your computer or other USB devices to reduce interference.

I was very frustrated with crackling and other annoying sounds while playing Fortnite and watching videos on YouTube. This problem persisted even after resetting my PC. Finally, I thought let's try asking ChatGPT, ChatGPT suggested a lot of points, but only this one worked for me.

In my case, my PCB Type C I/O port is very close to the Wifi and Bluetooth antennas. Maybe their frequency or signal interferes with the Razer 2.4 GHz dongle. So following ChatGPT suggestion I used a USB-A to USB-C extender for the Razer 2.4 Ghz dongle and it worked for me.
