When I connect to an external monitor via a USB Type-C port, I only have the option to use Optimus in my GPU selection. Am I doing something wrong, or does this port only connect to Intel Graphics? That would be a huge let down.

In some models, you can use the dedicated GPU or the iGPU when connected to an external monitor. Some are strictly GPU only and the other way around. Please send me the serial number of your laptop via PM. I can use it to verify its model and check this for you.
