Razer Core X V2 (Serial:612527U44000089) Failing to connect correctly via Thunderbolt 4 port on Dell Inspiron 7620

Hi,

Just got my Core X V2, and have run into issues connecting it to my Dell Inspiron 7620.

Specs are :  Dell Inspiron 7620, Intel Thunderbolt Controller 1134, Windows 11 24H2

When Core X V2 is connected - the device shows up as an “Input Device” in the USB device list in settings.  Not as a USB4 Hub.

I get the same result when connecting via my WD22TB4 expander (which works completely correctly) - the Core X V2 shows as a input device.

In device manager - I can see an errored Extensible USB device,.   The GPU in the Core does not show at all.

It is visible in Razer Synapse, but it is showing the internal GPU in use.  The external GPU is not visible at all  - I have tried both GeForce RTX 5060 and RTX 3050.

I have triple checked power, cable (using the one that came with the Core X V2) etc etc.

Looks a lot like some sort of issue with Win 11 device recognition - now that Win 11 manages the Thunderbolt devices directly.

Have double checked any outstanding Windows and Dell updates - any  advice  on next steps would be welcome.

Further update after some days of troubleshooting.

On my Dell,  in device manager - the Core X V2 is showing up as a ”Billboard Interface” and “DMC Device” in USB Devices.

This suggests that there is a failure between the Core X V2 interface and my laptop to  handshake capabilities properly - which is caused by either a cable issue (I have tried 2 different cables) or a driver issue - much more likely IMHO.

The PC is an older dell - but my TB4 Hub works perfectly well as I said in the original post.

Am currently working through this with Dell - but any other input would be appreciated.   I believe the Core X V2 is based on the Intel JHL9480 PCIe 4.0 to TB5 device.   I have successfully used a Core X with this laptop.

Anyone from Razer support looking at these pages - support is impossible to contact.

Have had my Razer Core X v2 swapped by support - still same issue.   Dell point to Razer but also weren’t clear about what exactly the level of features supported on the TB4 port is.

Extra complication is that now Thunderbolt is managed natively within Windows 11.   No idea if a future update will fix it (from Razer, Dell or MS) - just stuck with it not working at the moment - and no ownership of the issue.

Ok - update from Dell - there are limitations with the TB4 implementation on the Inspiron 16 Plus (7620) - in two areas - supply of power (should not be an issue in this case) and in the area of PCIe tunnelling - which is the capability used to connect eGPUs into the PC.    Exactly what the limitations are are not clear - however my PC does work with the Razer Core X but not currently with the V2 version.

No idea if this is a “hard” limit or more of an issue that can be addressed through drivers/firmware.
