Razer Core X with Linux and a Thinkpad T14s AMD Gen3 (+dock?)?

Hi,

Got a new laptop for work, a Thinkpad T14s AMD Gen3, which runs an up-to-date Linux (Debian Sid) and supports USB4. And as I read about a lot of praise for the increased Linux Gaming support (and can confirm so far - everything with Steam and/or Lutris worked out for me so far) I was wondering about the suitability of eGPUs for my case.

So I was wondering, should this laptop just work with a Razer Core X? Can I use any modern NVIDIA or AMD/ATI graphics card? (I’m currently glancing at the AMD/ATI Radeon 6000 series, the 7000 series still seems a bit too early as I see a lot of bug reports here at the time of writing (March 2023): https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues ) Anything that just works with a standard, recent, vanilla Linux kernel, without the need of installing closed source Linux drivers (closed source GPU firmwares are sort of OK for me at the moment)?

The T14s AMD Gen3 has just one USB4/USB-C port. Is there a recommended docking station I could put in between this port and a Razer Core X (at Lenovo I currently only see USB3 docks or Thunderbolt4 docks, but not USB4)? Or would getting the Razer Core X Chroma be the only option then (which thanks to its own USB ports and ethernet port could be used as a docking station as is)?

Finally, should I be able to get 40gbit/s speeds over Thunderbolt3 over this USB4 / USB-C port with the Razer Core X (Chroma)? Or would it make sense to search/wait for a fully USB4 compatible eGPU enclosure?

Cheers

PS: And it’s nice to read that more people here are using Linux for gaming with an eGPU, like @monkeeeeeeee here:
