Razer Huntsman TE stopped working on a specific PC

I have a Razer Huntsman TE (v1) that suddenly stopped working. I’ve already done due diligence in trouble shooting it.

tldr; keyboard stopped working on desktop, tried it on my laptop it works, not a port issue, not a cable issue, won’t get detected in Device Manager (desktop only) but works ok in Laptop

  • Desktop: I use it as my permanent keyboard for my desktop. After booting my PC it suddenly wont accept any input. LEDs also won’t light up
  • Laptop: I tried using it in my laptop, with the same cable and it works just fine: keyboard lights up and I can type normally
  • Desktop: Not a Desktop USB port hardware issue: I already tried changing ports, confirmed those ports work as my other peripherals works when I tested them with the same port
  • Desktop: Demo mode (space + capslock + esc) works, it lights up and all but returning it to non-demo/typing  mode, it wont work, i can’t type and LED does not light up
  • Laptop: Demo mode (space + capslock + esc) works and non-demo/typing mode works
  • Desktop: won’t appear in the Device Manager
  • Desktop: restarted, uninstalled synapse and all “Razer” items in Device Manager, restarted, still wont work.
  • Desktop: tried the firmware updater, (https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13676) won’t work as it can’t detect that the keyboard is plugged.
  • Laptop: tried the firmware updater, says my keyboard is already up-to-date
  • Desktop: tried the Device Detection Troubleshoot Tool  (https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5776/~/how-to-use-the-device-detection-troubleshoot-tool) completed the process and still wont work.

I’d boot some linux live USB distro like Linux Mint or Ubuntu for eg on your PC to check if it’ll work inside Linux to check if it’s some software issue inside your OS or not.

I just tried this with Ubuntu on the same hardware and it still did not work. Even in BIOS it still didn’t work.

I also happen to have a additional device, a chromebook, tried it there and it works.

So now I have:

Desktop: won’t work
Laptop (win): works
Laptop (Chromebook) : works

And those usb ports and cable works 100% - of course i did try it in multiple ports that I also tested works with other peripherals and usb drives, it feels like the keyboard and desktop suddenly became incompatible - hardware wise.

I'd try Bios update if possible on the faulty PC. also assume you connect it directly into port on motherboard.

Also what if you disconnect all other USB peripherals, and try keyboard only?

Just updated my mobo firmware to latest (aug 2024), and yes, aside from the front panel USB, I also tried directly connecting it direct to mobo usb ports from the back and still no luck.

I almost wanted to re-format and re-install Windows but given that I already tried the bootable Linux / and even in BIOS the keyboard did not get recognized, I don’t think that would work (and too much effort to back up and set up everything again)

Reformat will do nothing since it’s not detected at bios level.

Is it AMD or Intel platform?

Try disabling fast boot option in bios. if not try restoring bios default settings.
