Razer Kishi v1 for iPhone: No Sound From Speakers

Greetings. I have the original Kishi v1 for iPhone and have a very simple question: When it is on my iPhone, there is no sound coming from the phone speakers in any games. If I use my AirPods, I can hear sound no problem, but this isn't always feasible. Is this by design that there is no sound if the Kishi is mounted on the phone? And if so, what was the logic behind this decision? There are 2 very obvious speaker slits on the Kishi, presumably to allow sound from the iPhone speakers to not be obstructed. I have searched the internet/reddit/etc, can't find a definitive answer yes or no.
