Razer Synapse Virus? | Razer Insider

First time posting here. I am trying to get some information and Razer had this as an unofficial support forum.

I haven't played much games for about a year. However I do play wow once in awhile. I did get a new Razer Synapse Trinity mouse about 3 months ago. All the software was downloaded for it and it occasionally updates whenever I start the computer back up in the mornings.

This morning my AVG blocked a virus called IDP.ALEXA.53 and it showed a file path through C:\\WINDOWS\\INSTALLER\\RAZERCENTRAL\\161787932241IDBNRAPRRAZERSYNAPSECONFIGURATIONDATASETUP_V3.6.0415.040817.EXE

Process: C:\\WINDOWS\\INSTALLER\\RAZERCENTRAL\\161787932241IDBNRAPRRAZERSYNAPSECONFIGURATIONDATASETUP_V3.6.0415.040817.EXE

I haven't downloaded any games, however I do have steam that I occasionally start up and it just does the updates once in awhile.

I tried looking this up and see that some old post as far back as 2019 say some people get this and it sometimes shows as a false positive for particular programs. But I have my razer synapse programs for my mouse downloaded for months, and like I said it just does the occasional update automatically when I start my computer up.

Has anyone gotten this through message through their AVG protection program? Do you know where I could find info as to whether this is or isn't a virus or threat?

See my screenshot please.
Same issue with Avast here :confused_:
Just got the same issue today, super weird as Razer didnt update the software recently and I didn't change anything Razer-related recently. Anyone has more info on this issue?
Same issue here. Using Avast.
I just got the same message however it was exactly the same time as a Razer update ws being applied. Dismissed it as a false positive and added an exception. If you are concerned you could take the file specified by AVG and upload to virustotal to check it's reputation
Same AVG message for me as well. I did read online that there could be False Positives with this, so I went ahead and granted exception.

I'd really like to get some feedback from some Razer personnel on this one asap. Seems like a significant threat undermining trust in app updates..
I believe the virus warning is because of the new update for Alexa.

Still unsure if it's a false positive, however, if you don't use Alexa you can block it for now until Razer has given us more information.

I have mine stored in the Virus Chest using Avast. Hope this helps a little!
Same issue with Avast when I try appdate razer synapse
Just came across this today, myself.

After turning on my PC from a few days.

Posted a new topic on it to bump up. But I should have searched first. My bad!

Either way, would like a chime in from Razer on this, would be nice.

So new post and a bump! 🙂
Came across this issue today. Apparently still persists. Potentially malicous file IDP.ALEXA.53 is located in ...\\INSTALLER\\RACER CENTRAL
