SSD health decreasing at alarming rate according to crystal disk info | Razer Insider

So at the beginning of 2022 (don't know the exact date) I received the laptop: Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model - Full HD 360Hz - GeForce RTX 3080 - Black

Now I have been using it for a while and I saw something that scared me. The health status of my ssd is at 77% at the moment. So roughly ¼ of it's health is just gone. I try to check what I do wrong but I can't see what I do wrong. I am careful with it when I need to go somewhere with it, I make sure that the laptop can ventilate well, I don't do weird stuff on my laptop that may damage it. My warranty is over sadly.

But I noticed in the last 5-8 weeks that 2 percent dropped. This scares me since I use it for work as well besides gaming and programming. It was also crazy expensive and it would suck if it just breaks that quickly.

Anyone know what I can do to improve the ssd health, avoid more damage, etc?

It’s just a disk. And it’s normal, that it wears overtime when there’s a lot of writes.

There are still available spares - extra blocks, that will replace the used (“exhausted”) blocks.

You can check if there’s some app, that may be consuming too much disk space or using disk too much (writes).

Hi FiszPL,

Thank you for your response. I understand that with time the hard disk can decrease in quality. I do mess around with plenty of files often. But from what you can see, do you say that the numbers are normal?

What is the extra blocks called? I want to understand more of what is happening.

That can always be good to look at yes, thank you. I am trying to do that and understand how a hard drive works to understand better of what can happen.

Yes, the numbers are normal. Nothing to worry.

Extra blocks are called “Available spare” in smart. Percentage used is just a prediction, and can be over 100% (it doesn’t mean, that if it reach 100% disk will fail).

Disk endurance also depends on the disk model. Personally I have WD Black NVMe drive which have nearly 80TB writes, and works flawlessly.

Hi, sorry for the late response.

I will check into the available spare. I am glad to hear that these numbers are normal and that despite the health status that it doesn't mean  that my hard disk will fail. Today another percentage is down.

I trust your answer on this, I try to take care of my had disk but there are plenty of things that I just have to do, so sometimes writing alot of memory can't be avoided.
